You won't have to worry about gears, most of the good ones you will have to farm. Abyssea gears and accessories are very decent to have, the plus 2 sets are still one of the best ones. You also have options to farm relic gears and turn them into the plus 2 version and then the voidwatch ones. Not to mention Meeble Burrow, Legion, Neo Nyzul, Neo Limbus, Neo Einherjar etc....
The best advice I can give you is to farm crystals, if you so choose. Level all your starter jobs to 15-20 solo in nearby cities area using exp ring while farming crystals and craftable misc items. Saruta Cotton still fetch a nice 8k price, Silk Thread around 15-18k. Getting 6 jobs to 20 or 30 (if you do Windurst area and Buburimu) will get you quite a handful of starting money, probably easily 100-200k just selling stuffs. Or do quests and sell those scrolls, which is not good if you are mage, though you can rebuy this later. All those tele scrolls plus the recall scrolls, warp, warp 2, aspir, drain etc are still fetching good money. Gear yourself with artifact set, which is still somewhat decent. Do campaign and use those purchasable allied notes gears if you want for around lvl 60s, you can also do the campaign ops, which is a nice way to supply the notes. At level 78 you can get the abysea basic starter gears which are very decent to tide you in while you are farming your empyrean sets.
The thing about returning and restarting is the job choice. Ideally you should have a good starter job. My suggestion would be to level WHM, it is very needed, on all aspect of the game. The Maat battle is ridiculously easy. At 61 you can get into Abysea party even if you have no refresh atma, those temps items will get you far. Two or three abysea session will take you to level 80s easily and net you around 100-200k cruors. You will need a good 5-8 abyssea session to go back and forth between limit break and max out your merit on WHM. As casual player, I can level WHM from 1-95 in one week. Then just have to find a group for limit break 99. If you have WHM testimony, you can do abysea from 61-70, warp back to Jeuno, still in alliance, do the battle, within 10-15 mnts back to your abyssea party and get to 75, warp back to unlock merit point, go back to get 30 merits, go back to jeuno to get to 80, get back to abysea and get 1 xp to 76, leave to Jeuno again for limit break, and you are good to go from 76-85. Then repeat the same deal for next round from 85-95
The other job that is very good to level is Beastmaster. With the right atmas, one of them is ducal guard atma, somewhat doable to solo duo, with no need to proc red. With Beastmaster you can later solo your abysea seal farm (not too great but better than none), you can do dynamis farm (awesome income), you can solo most of the missions, you can solo some BCNMs (good income). The downside is beastmaster not quite needed for Voidwatch and Legion. But you can still solo the older contents, you can use it for old Nyzul and Meeble Burrow. Beastmaster is also good job to have for the limit break 99.
Other jobs you may want to level, which is somewhat in high demands would be BLM, War, Mnk, and Sam. Another good soloer is Summoner. Thief is always great, Banish 3 which is farmable is 100k. Aero 4 is 200-400k depend on price fluxtuation. Tons of other scrolls can be sold for 10-20k and thief can farm them all. You can skill ups in Boyahda Tree and farm Tree Cuttings and Boyahda Moss. You can sell those geodes, fire, wind and earth still fetch decent price.
Another good thing once you have one melee job at 99, either thief, dancer/thf or beasmaster/thief is to farm pop items from Abyssea. Some of these range from low 10k to 120k depending on demand. The 10k-50k are easy solo. All 9 abyssea zones have some high demand pop items, mostly for zone boss and empyrean weapon. If you can put 7 items that averaging 30k each, thats a tidy 200k ish. Also you can sell augmented gears, Konstacht abysea has dark ring that fetch 30k selling to NPC. Even gathering augmented gears from La Theine worm party can get you 100k easily grabbing those headpiece selling at 13k each.
