My 1st day playing FFXI on Windows

Well, I can't say that title is entirely accurate. I just did a little walkthrough in Jeuno to get a feel for it after uploading a ton of macros from my PS2 (don't even want to imagine having to redo all of those). Other than being unable to use the triggers on my XBox360 wireless controller--I couldn't assign the macros to them for some reason--nothing seems all that different aside from higher screen resolution.

One thing I've noticed is that the windowed mode isn't really as bad as people made it out to be. At least I haven't noticed any significant dropoff from full screen that's worth noting.

I'm not too sure whether or not I'll keep the PS2 or not. If nothing else, I might use it as a backup when I'm not planning on going through an Adoulin area. Overall, I am glad to be able to do this without having to shell out dough for another computer (I installed Windows 7 on a Boot Camp partition [2009 MacBook] and it's running nicely).

EDIT: 2 more things that struck me were how much cleaner the music sounded compared to PS2, and my computer speakers are by no means new, and the smoother graphics (the new JA/spell/WS icons are a nice touch, particularly for SMN avatars).

Yeah, analogue trigger buttons are kind not supported in FF11. It's the same with my Dualshock 3 that I use. I just can't assign analogue axes as regular buttons. I use the L1/R1 buttons for macros instead, as they are registered as regular buttons in windows.

I am pretty sure this is a FF11 specific issue, though. In FF14, using the exact same drivers, I am able to assign the R2/L2 buttons as regular buttons in that game's config utility.

The only way around this is probably to use some sort of tool to trick windows into thinking the buttons are actually regular buttons, not gradual input thingies.

Yea, triggers can't be used for XI unless you jump through some flaming hoops. I just use the 360's LB/RB for macros and Back for auto-run.

Get a Logitech F310 Gamepad or a Logitech F710 Wireless Gamepad.

These work fine with FFXI full support all buttons.

I would suggest googling Motionjoy if you're having issues with drivers for PS3/Xbox360 controllers. I've used it myself for years and have no issues with functionality of all buttons and rumble is supported.

With motioninjoy, my analogue triggers do not work in FF11, but they do work in FF14.

Not sure what to tell you. I use a custom button assignment option, not any of the playstation options since those only worked with select games correctly. After setting up a custom profile all triggers worked with the only downside being that setting down the PS3 controller would depress the R2/L2 causing my macro selection to appear.

I use some blue piece of crap that I bought off ebay and have had to solder twice. All functions of the PS2 controller work.

this post here has links to some drivers that will make your 360 trigger buttons work correctly. It's a little bit of work, but well worth the trouble.

I keep hoping that they will update the game to support those sort of controllers some day, but I guess they just don't care. Maybe when some wiseguy hacks like 50,000 accounts by including a key logger in a 360/ps3 controller driver, then there will be enough outcry for SE to give a crap.
