What is best way to level my auto's skills?

Hey guys, I am only 25 and have my first two automons and was wondering what the best way to level their skills? I got the healing auto first now I have the ranged one and was wondering what you guys do to level? Do you guys do it in grps , solo, bookburns, do you make it fight low level mobs and just heal it? Thanks all...

Healing is the easiest to skill, you just tank the mob while he heals you (advise is to get all the Refresh/Convert/Haste/etc for this frame).

The way to skillup range is similar, but this time you'll probably need to go /DNC or /mage so you can self heal (or any other regen/hp refill mechanism). Set him down about 15' out of melee range (basically you deploy him and then run away with the mob on you) and then just keep the mob on you while he range attack (get the Drum frame or otherwise you'll be stuck with 22sec per range attack round, racc attachments are also a must have as well).

Melee frame is also pretty easy. Similar to range frame, but can keep you with you to melee. (get Regen+/Haste/Acc attachments). Bring plenty of Oil and some backup Mulsum depending on what mobs you're doing. Swap ENM/TP with your pet to keep his ENM low.

In terms of mob level, that really depends on your pet's skill level. So depending on that, you can change mob level as you see fit as long as you keep the mobs as DC to the 'capped' level of the selected skill you trying to cap. As for mob family, I find typically crabs to work the best but 'large' mobs usually work well for me as well. Good luck.

http://wiki.ffxiclopedia.org/wiki/Ca...on_Attachments list all the attachments by their element. Probably be a good idea to get a good feel on what these are and what their elements are since some requires you to activate them using the corresponding maneuver. For example, to get Refresh to work for your pet, with either Mana Tank or Mana Tank II equipped, you'll need to have at least 1 Dark Maneuver up (more will typically increase the MP+/tic but you'll have to balance that out with whatever other attachments you have on your pet and wanted them to be activated.

It'll take some experimenting once you get most/all of the attachments that you want/need to get the hang of things. Good Luck.

For magic skill, once your automaton can buff you with protect/shell/stoneskin etc. you can safely skill up by letting your auto buff you, then you turn off the buffs and let your puppet recast the buffs. As long as the recast timers (spell and universal) are up you'll never have to fight a mob for magic skill ups (warning: like with any self targeting magic skill up this method is tedious and mind numbing)

For ranged skill up worms are a nice choice if you don't want to have to fight yourself. Just deploy at max range, run away so you're out of stonega range and use regen and magic def. attachments as appropriate.

Not relevant for you for a while but I capped my skills at 99 by soloing the dolls op in aby-altep with /dnc for cures and the occasional meltdown stun. I tried doing ranged on the worms in aby-uleguerand but it got boring fast.

Thanks for all the help. My melee and magic are almost capped and I think i can cap them in groups pretty easy but I am going to have to do worm on ranged. WHat worms do you recommend if his skills are like 10-20 range, but I am level 40.

It's a bit fuzzy when it comes to math but this will give you a general idea:

    (Puppet's AGI / 2) + Skill = Ranged Accuracy

Take the Ranged Accuracy and compare it to a table such as this: http://ffxi.gamerescape.com/wiki/Skill_Caps/Ranger. Look at the second column and find a number close to what you got for Ranged Accuracy. Now move over to the first column to see what level your target should be. That will give you a maximum target your puppet can hit decently and will still be able to skill up on. Note the closer your skill gets to the number in the second column the slower your skill ups will be, trying to keep the worm's level somewhere in the middle of your puppet's Ranged Accuracy and Skill will help keep the skill ups at a decent rate.

So using the information you provided it would look something like this:
Note: I used a Hume RNG estimated AGI value at 40 as I don't know the stats on a level 40 puppet ranger frame.

    41 / 2 + 20 = 40.5

So using the table I linked I'd aim for worms around level 13. Rock Eaters in King Ranperre's Tomb should hold you over until you get to around 50 skill on the puppet.

For any skillup (master or automaton) first find out your skill rank (A, B, C..) and your skill level. Sharpshot has an A- ranged skill and lets say your ranged skill is at 33, well under cap for a lv 40 automaton. Check this page http://wiki.ffxiclopedia.org/wiki/Skill_Caps and we can see that for an A- skill at 33 is equivalent to a level 10 puppet so you'll want to fight mobs level 10 and above.

If you have a particular mob in mind just look at its category page (http://wiki.ffxiclopedia.org/wiki/Worms) and pick something appropriate.

Recently its been changed that you can skill up on decent challenge mobs so you could fight a bit lower level mob but the skill ups will be slower.
