this is not really a PS2 VS PC debate -.- and yes most know that the PC can blow the PS2, and 360 out of the water on graphics, hell just off the change of resolution alone, but some still prefer to play on PS2. Some the visual does not bother them, and others for convenience factor.

I like playing my extra account on PS2. I don't have to worry about my controller's batteries dying!

well thats like, just your OPINION man.
and it is now. i used to think alike, because it was hard to find a pc capable of running ffxi smoothly. that was 7 years ago, its not hard now, it will run better, prettier, and wont lag at a bahamut zerg.

same can be said for PS3 and PC, and even 360, not hard to plug your controller in when the batteries start to get low and let them recharge.

    PS2 Picts... http://www.dropbox.com/gallery/12827...21%21?h=e37718

Old youtube video of a bug w/ the PS2 version (long since resolved)...
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H0npvLOrvsw

Do you have the PS2 version?

Look I normally play the Windows version myself. But saying that the PS2 version looks "horrible" is outrageous.... And the performance shown in the video shows that it runs very well... (though it get's choppy in campaign unless you enable filters).

Windows 7 (non OEM) is $300. Just for the software. You'll need to invest $500-800 or so for the hardware necessary to run it. It's not worth upgrading if you are happy with the PS2 version. I have plenty of friends who play the PS2 version and enjoy it just fine.

it is entirely worth upgrading, they simply dont knkw what they are missing by keeping with the old.
also where are you getting those prices, because thats mega inflated. you're shopping at the wrong stores.

and i reiterate, the ps2 version looks horrible. especially if you have those stock av cables the system comes with. disgusting pig pixels, a la analog display

If you think those don't look horrible (especially when compared to PC or even 360 pics),
    {I'm Sorry} {Awful Eye} {Please check it.}

I realize that's relatively insulting but, you are saying stupid things. Calling it like I see it.

Well my mom, who is 83 years old, has a nicer computer than mine!
emachine from walmart says it all!
    nevertheless it runs FFXI nicely.
Lately I have heard strange noises in the thing so am working up to getting a new one.
Anyone have a suggestion for a good place to find a cheap computer that might run FFXIV part time?
I have considered getting a new mb/cpu but emachine is not very friendly that way. Still its a thought.

First time poster here, hello! PC player mostly, but I have played the PS2, PC, and 360 versions of this game and I must say, PS2 had the better effects of all the versions. Not to say that the PC or 360 version look bad, but some spell and ability particle effects just look quite different on the PS2. The biggest thing I noticed right away was the PC version's lack of shine on the weapons! Greatswords look so much better with that shine effect on them. :| But in the end the PC's convenience far outweights the extra effects the PS2 has, just wished they did a better job on PC port on effects, 360 version being based off PC version lacks these effects as well. Also, a retail Windows 7 copy goes for 200~ nowadays, not 300. Around 99~ for OEM
