You can, however, use the JP version of playonline which would allow you to type in Japanese using IME or a japanese keyboard. Doesn't require any 3rd party tools.

I have a Japanese keyboard... works on the PS3... but it functions like a standard U.S. keyboard on Windows... the Kana and Alphanumeric keys don't do anything.
