The /smes is out of date

Somewhere along the line, SE made a move to do some publicity with the /smes message (displayed every time you login to a character or anytime the /smes command is used). This is something very similar to a system message displayed at login time on FFXIV.... and on FFXIV, they seem to keep it up to date.

But it is very much out of date now on FFXI. (At least it is on Siren where I play.)

There are 4 things mentioned on the current /smes. 3 of the 4 are events that have come and gone. One is a mention of a seasonal event (the one BEFORE the event running now). One is a mention of the golden gobbiebag giveaway. One is the 10th anniversary concert. The only one that isn't out of date is a mention of the new expansion, Seekers of Adoulin, although it is old.

I would have thought that when they put back the "normal" /smes message following the update maintenance on September 24, they would have put back something that was up to date..... but no.... it's still the same one they had before the maintenance announcement was put in place.

And speaking of the maintenance announcement, there were a couple of oversights on that too. Another thread somewhere mentioned the listing of July 23 as a date for the update notes... and in addition, the end time in the /smes version of the maintenance announcement was listed as 11:00am PDT (and 19:00 GMT). 19:00 GMT is the same time as 12:00 PDT, and all the other versions of the maintenance announcement did list 12:00 PDT as the end time.

I would think a little better attention to details would be in order.

I never actually paid any attention to this until reading this thread. It's actually quite sad. Almost feels like SE have forgotten about this game. Still waiting for new information on Adoulin...

it always bugged me too, for the longest time it said that we should link our FFXI accounts with SE account management even though the dead line was months back, and if you still hadn't you wouldn't even be able to play.

The /smes was updated a couple of times with messages having to do with Meeble Burrows and the problems that were occurring there. But now it appears those problems have been resolved.

So what have they done with /smes?

It has reverted back to almost the SAME OUT-OF-DATE MESSAGE as existed at the time of my original posting of this thread. The mention of the 10th anniversary concert has been removed, but the other 3 items are the same, and 2 of them are very much out of date.

As mentioned before, this is something very similar to things displayed on FFXIV at login time, but on FFXIV, they are being kept up to date. That is not happening at all here on FFXI.

I would recommend that if SE can't keep these messages up to date any better than this, the message should be returned to it's setup from some time back where the only thing in the message is the <<< Welcome to WorldName >>> portion of the message (as in <<< Welcome to Siren! >>> on the world I play on).

The play online advertisement bar still says Valkyrie Profile 2 for PS2 in stores now.
