From XIV trying out XI

Today I started XI for the first time and I'm currently a XIV player who is not too thrilled about how the game is changing for 2.0. I'm hoping that XI is a more tedious game as I believe the more painful an MMO is, the more rewarding it is to play.

So what server is the most populated? Are people still leveling characters and would I be able to find groups? Is solo leveling viable? I've just been running around killing wasps aimlessly and haven't run into any other players. Anyone else new and want to play with me? I want to give this game a serious chance.

Are any linkshells welcoming new players? I look forward to meeting some new friends and exploring this game.

People are still leveling low level jobs, but not as much as before. You can solo at a somewhat ok pace, but you should probably try to have at least 2-3 others with you to speed things up. Most people hang out in Jeuno nowadays, along with abyssea and voidwatch locations, that's probably why you haven't seen too many around in starter areas.

Leveling to 99 is relatively fast, but pretty monotonous. When you have one job at 99, the next one will probably be extremely fast to level. People don't really consider it to "have" a job until it is geared somewhat decently, though.

come to our server, send amaday a tell, ill get u a pearl for our ls, its social but they do hold random events like vw clears, abyssea clears, quest clears, whatvr the new guys are up to they post the time and a bunch of them go out and hammer old content. I'm on bismarck, fyi. Welcome to ffxi ^^

Thank you guys for the offers! I found a shell on Odin before I even saw your posts. I'm here happily leveling my RDM who is almost 20. I'm really loving XI so far.
