Hello,
I'd like to address an issue, which I followed me in that game quite a long time now:
When using a CPU with Multiple Cores, it could happen that you experience small graphic lags froms time to time. For myselfe I experienced this with:
- a AMD Athlon X2 4200+
- a AMD Phenom X4 965
- a Intel Core 2 Duo with 2,4 GHz
I don't really remember if the Problem happened under Windows XP, but it occured with Windows 7 x64 as well as x86 Edition. It feels that the micro lags appear more frequent on quad core cpus than on dual core cpus.
I noticed it first time, when I upgraded my PC to a new Processor (Dual to Quadcore), and just couldn't believe such an "old" game lags every few seconds. After some research I found, that FFXI has problems with Multiple Cores.
The problem disappeared when you open up the Taskmanager (in Windows 7 "as Administrator"), right click the pol.exe process, and limit the affinity from all cores to just a single core. The game feels much more fluent after that and no more micro lags.
I setup a third party tool named "cpu control" (freeware), which can be configured to automaticly limit pol.exe to 1 core after it has been launched but it would be nice if you might be able to have a look into it, maybe there is a solution to enjoy the game fluently without haveing to reconfigure the affinity every time you launch it![]()
