Pray deeply from whatever secret place you keep your hope that this isn't the case. If it's a purely defensive job then it'll never be used, ever.
In case nobody's here has actually been playing the game, we don't use tanks anymore as their worthless. A super Brochain PLD can do absolutely nothing except hold a NM or adds. The "tank" can never hold hate, the DD's can't "hold back" or you'll time our / wipe, and even then the NM just goes "GRRR DIE!!" and everyone (except the PLD) takes 1500~2000+ damage. So even if the PLD was able to hold hate it wouldn't do any good as everyone else would be dead. Blame SE's shitty game design, they refused to update hate / damage mechanics and instead of creating AI they instead made every single NM require Perfect Defense or Fanatics Drinks to survive.
SE needs to completely redo their NM stats, reduce their aoe damage output by 50~75% or more, otherwise it's just requires PD. Then reduce hate from damage to 25% of it's current value (same with cures) and increase hate gained via JA / Flash while giving *tank* jobs some additional hate tools. Only way a tank can possibly "tank" is if they can generate more hate with their tools then a melee can going full bore.
