Did you know there is a color called #FFDEAD? Sounds more like a twitter feed then a color to me...

For some reason, green-on-black makes me want to gouge out my eyes... it pierces the soul like a million tiny needles >_<

I don't much care about colored posts, as long as they stick with darker colors so it doesn't become a pain to read. I get more annoyed by size tags... size=ant just invites the boot stomping all over it...

I've seen people choose other color combinations, but that's the beauty of it, you can pick it and enforce it system-wide. My Apple ][ I had as a first computer came with a green monochrome monitor, and I remembered that I didn't get headaches with it, so that's what I set my system to. One of my friends like more blueish text on black, and another likes yellow on black. I picked the color that worked for me after tinkering with it a bit, and I've been on that color scheme since 2005.

Either way, a dark background with bright text is much easier on the eyes when your screen is backlit. Paper isn't backlit, lightbulbs are. Reading black on white on a computer screen is like reading off a lit lightbulb all the time.

Sure, if the lightbulb operates at 1W. And even that is probably too high. A black screen is still backlit (in virtually all cases, depending on the hardware) and can give you headaches just as well. It's a matter of tolerance which varies from person to person and you can actually adapt to it so it doesn't ever bother you again in your life. Enough with the propaganda already.
