RMT to like or not to like? That is the question.

I've been adding people who whisper me with gold selling spam, people who shout for FCs and casinos to my blacklist since I know a lot of people who do FC parties and casinos are RMT. I had a couple of friends who were addicted to gambling with casinos and invited a casino who I had blacklisted into the guild. I expressed my distress at them for doing that and said that it would associate us with RMT, and I got a mouthful from one of the leaders saying that RMT were what were keeping the game and economy growing and that hating RMT is so 2006. As far as I'm aware buying gil is against the game rules, unless I misread something or the rules for it were altered. So is it wrong for me to dislike RMT and to actively be in support of the TOS?

Most of those FC and RMT accounts get banned or expired after two weeks; that's why the names keep changing. I wouldn't worry about the person staying in your linkshell for long term.

Personally, I don't care whether they're there or not, I don't bother with them and usually that means they don't bother me.

Are you talking about Mervis, or whatever his name was?

RMT don't do Casinos and if anyone associate's your LS with that, they're prejudiced morons. And who cares what you like or dislike. I'm not sure I see the point of this thread. Do you want us to share our opinions on what you should like/dislike? If that's what you want: liking/hating anything because of the rules is stupid. Like or hate RMT because they upset the game economy and game balance, not because the ToS tells you to hate them. Actively supporting an archaic set of rules for the sake of the rules themselves instead of their content makes you seem like a mindless drone. As for the Casino guy, hate him for spamming Jeuno with his shouts instead of possibly resembling RMT.

(And fyi, many FCers are not RMT either.)

I have always been under the impression that it's legit players that do the casino thing, and not RMT.

Not sure about Mervis tbh. He/she shouts at all hours of the day with a few breaks here and there, but at the same time I've seen them in abyssea occasionally. My guess it's just an alt, or possibly a shared account that some people run a casino out of. The time I saw them in abyssea they were wearing nothing but their usual opaline set, but had a kclub and were whm/dnc so idfk.

I think most of the cleavers are RMT (shit gear, if wearing gear at all), always with a lvl 1 starter RSE shouter in PJ shouting enrgish.

That said, Mandragora is most definitely NOT RMT, and runs some absolutely incredible cleave parties. Aside from great exp, you're always going to get your moneys worth and then some. My wife has gone a few times and only paid for 3 hours, and come back 5 hours later still in the party. Unlike the RMT, he won't just boot you when your time is up provided you're not taking the slot of a potential paying customer. He also has everyone /random now and then for a chance at having your cleave be free.

    ~ The OF motto ~
If someone has more gil than me, they bought it.
If someone outclaims me, they're botting.
If someone is more successful than me, they cheat.

No Acorn, I'm not seeking sides here. I'm just wanting to know if my dislike for them for harrassment spam, deliberate breaking of rules and ruining the game experience and economy is right or wrong, because that mouthful I got last night made me feel very uneasy and confused and wondering whether the rules on RMT had been relaxed that players were now supporting them rather than reporting them.

A lot of the FCs on our server are RMT. They frequently change names but they do the same shout and those who pay for them will end up shouting in Jeuno an hour or two later saying they got kicked out too early, or that the FC people were rubbish or spent half the time afk themselves, and swearing at them being RMT FC.

I played during early FFXI and back then the casinos were RMT and scammers that would take the gil then log out, after coming back from a 5 year break I still have that imprint in my mind that they're RMT or scammers so being in the same shell as one makes me very uncomfortable. I don't know about Mervis either, other than he talks Engrish. Even if he or the other recent ones are legit their frequent 4-5 line macro spamming in Jeuno is very annoying so I blacklist them all. I don't know if casinos are against TOS or not but I'd rather not involve myself with them since I'm not into gambling.

Anyways, I got the answer I was after. Thank you.

As far as I know gambling isn't against the terms of service (otherwise, why would there be gambling tables as part of the game?), and since making Gil isn't the problem it used to be I can't see why a casino can't be run by non-RMT.

...there are people who didn't think the casinos were scams?

If you were in a FC run by an RMT, they'd usually give you your money back if they were sucking and told them within the first hour or so.

The problem are the people who fail hard and go under the guise of a legit FC, only to keep on wiping.

Casinos are just annoying pricks, I blist them as soon as I see their first shout.

This might be a little off topic: About the RMT thing, I think RMT is becoming much more widely accepted now. Personally, I blame Blizzard. They've been saying for like a year now that a fully functional and integrated RMT AH will be built into Diablo 3, which has sold like 10 million copies last I saw. It's not that Blizzard sells the items though, everything on the RMT AH is listed by players, and other players buy them, or they get sent back. I think this single event is really bringing all the RMTers out of the woodwork to try and make it seem ok. I hadn't gotten an RMT tell to buy gil in like 2 years, and this week I've gotten 3 different ones. I would personally really like to know what the people in charge of FFXI think about this, since afterall, every game company wishes they could have the same success Blizzard does, and tries to copy a lot of what they do, http://forum.square-enix.com/ffxiv/threads/48205 even the FF14 team.

This is the first line about his trip to Blizzard, it goes on more, but you get the idea.

real money auction house is in D3 an already getting heat from it... a person bought a item for $200, said item was then nerfed.

whole community was foaming at the mouth.

as for casinos..... that can be reported on actually. Not for rmt but for community appeal. SE does have rules about things that make the community sub par. if you wanna gamble SE added betting tables in the game. higher stakes one are in jeuno.
