Assuming this is implying that everyone who plays that game is immature children. Which is funny, because my raiding guild was primarily made up of people in their 20s all the way to 50s, who had families and children that were likely older than half the people I've come across in FFXI.
~ The OF motto ~
If someone has more gil than me, they bought it.
If someone outclaims me, they're botting.
If someone is more successful than me, they cheat.
Aw, I didn't mean to hurt your feelings. Since your guild had people over age 20, then the entire game must have people only over age 20 as well. Good point.
One glance at the world chat (? I don't know what it's called ingame) pretty much confirms how many 12 year-olds play that game. Jeuno yells can be similar, but they're not nearly as bad.
Its really not, It just has the illusion of being nicer. Blizzard literally Blows up any post that might include naughty words like "poop" or "Meany Head". ... What I'm trying to say is they're very very strict there. It just seems nicer. Go to any other widely known WoW forum, and it'll be like ever other MMO forum ever in existence O___O
There's plenty of those here, its just drowned under a wave of "ABYSSEA IS DA DEVIL" and "THUR SHEWLD BE A LEVEL CAP ON ABYSSEA" and "GROWNZ OF VALUR SHOULD BE NURFD", oh and "GEAR SWAPPIN IS FOR HACKURZ AND BOTTRZ AND ELITISTS", good debates, and well thought out posts.
Good debate and conversation can only happen if people are willing to listen and learn. Most people here do not. And you can't really blame some of the more informed posters here for getting impatient with a few of the more ... notorious "idiots" (Sorry, Lack of better word) ... posters here.
Plus, i feel this forum is actually very tame all things considered. Its not really that bad... Its not candyland, But its really pretty tame. Moderators do their job if you actually report negative posts.
RDM is so perfect and useful, I love how PUP is the perfectly balanced job, DRK and DRG are loving the view...
What, does OP want people to lie on here?
Grrrr! I'm not aggressive and if you say it again I'll punch you in the face!
I think FFXI's community is emotionally attached to the game in ways you just don't see elsewhere and so we tend to be very passionate about how we think things should be. We're also quite scarred by years of abuse and neglect by SE. Some of us are very vengeful and some are stricken with a form of Stockholm Syndrome. That's not a good mix for things to be all hunky dory.
A lot of truth in this post. For some....7+ years of neglect on their job of choice. Those people have tried and tried for years to affect desperately needed adjustments to this game....those people have the experience to know what may be be best for those jobs/events and such, but still get neglected/disrespected.
Hate to be the one to open up the can of worms, but I guess someone has to do it eventually....
I say it often in the LS when someone brings up a question or is debating something about a job or an event...."ask so and so, he's played the job or done that event for forever and a day". I try to defer to those with the experience...but when you learn something about a job/event, and you really know it, then you should be able to speak up when someone is touting something that is incorrect or otherwise misinformed. It's more about keeping the record straight than you being right. Facts are facts, knowns are knowns, unknowns are unknowns.
We'll never truly know all there is to know about this game...but there are some that have taken the time and effort to dig up a lot of this crud and tested it over and over. It's all out there on the wiki's and other partner sites/forums. Has been for years--I read up on a lot of it before I even bought the game to make sure I really wanted to get involved with it. But.. that's just me. If more people would actually do the research and learn this stuff in the first place (or at least ask around in their LS and such), they wouldn't have to come here to get an education.

I don't really notice a forum tone, everyone in this community seems pretty cool so far. Usually you meet a lot of trolls in most mmos. Anyways my take on it is, people have opinions, and these opinions should be addressed, but once someone gets smug and insulting about their point well it does start to cross a line. But this is also the internet, we don't really have any control over the way people communicate with each other. I do agree to an extent with the forum creator, we should be more respectful of each other, specially since we are all gamers and FF fans. Maybe I haven't been here long enough, but even on this thread I don't notice how everyones snide or insulting. But based on many other games I do agree with the OP, some people take their opinions way to far, but if somethings broke we need to fix it, and if nobody will fix it people need to speak up.
This is pretty much standard for any video game board.
