Returning after 6 years

Hello,
After taking a long long...long.. break i'm back and a friend came back too. We both had 55/60 whatever the max was at CoP time frame. But, our old server Midgarsomr(sp?) is dead so we've started over on carby and haven't seen too many people while out and running around. We're open to joining a LS, we've both been reading up on the changes and we're charging towards 99 as quickly as we can as a duo until we find other groups for this new page burning stuff.

We're getting ready for our lvl 30 subjobs and looking for a LS to join.. laid back social LS would be great, we're pretty independent and don't need much hand holding. Doesn't look like much has changed at lower levels and we're going through the pain of unlocking everything and getting the airship/chocobo licenses as we go.

I am assuming Jueno is still the major hang out at this point. If any other new players are on feel free to ping us and we'd gladly group up and play or share what we've learned since the changes to what we're used to.

Midgardsormr merged into Quetzalcoatl if you are still interested in trying to be on the same server (but it is probably too late for that unless you wish to start over or pay to transfer servers).

While reading many of the guides people have started to make on these forums is a decent start don't forget to rely on Community Websites for great advice. The main one I'd suggest is FFXIAH because you can check prices and it links to the major wiki websites (there are 2-3 competing wikis). The wikis themselves have great information and should answer basic questions faster then asking a forum or IRC channel.

The best advice I can give you right now (aside from obvious basics) would be to head to Jeuno and start your Abyssea quests as soon as you reach level 30. You might not enter Abyssea as soon as you can, but it is a good idea to start the stone generation process as soon as possible - time is an issue in Abyssea but only for people starting out. Another good idea is to start Voidwatch stones as soon as possible as well, however that isn't nearly as important.

Thanks Economizer, we've been wearing out the wiki's and other resource websites and it's been a rather painless return! Thanks for the information on Abyssea, we're almost to 30 and starting to read up on what needs to be done for Abyssea since it appears to the the focus point of the game now.

We're looking at doing dual BST or BST/SMN and just enjoying the old zones and the nostalgia of the old school FFXI we used to play. Once we're done there we'll look to joining everyone else at 99 and doing more of the normal stuff.

I'm typically not into blogging anything but it's been temping due to the funny stuff (and frustrating stuff) you run into along the way.

If anyone has any suggestions on a world we're open to a world transfer, it just seems like 90% of Carbuncle is Japanese or hermit NA players who don't socialize much.

Abyssea is a major part of the game (Cruor, Experience, AF3, and a handful of other gear while being relatively easy to get), but it isn't the be all and end all. Dynamis is now a one time fee before being an entry once per Earth day (resetting at Japanese Midnight), and you'll still want to do stuff like climb Nyzul Isle (the original, although you'll need at least three people), and even try your hand at Campaign Battle (which is a decent way for mid-high level characters to get money while getting experience, although the lack of skill ups is sad). And on top of all of that you still have the basic missions to do, it is a challenging path to start, but much more achievable by smaller numbers and dedication now.

I only mentioned the world transfer if you thought you may have friends still playing on your original server (and even if they are they could have different names now due to the merge). That said is is a one time fee of $25.00 per account and you'll be unable to transfer again for 90 days afterwords so consider carefully before deciding if you want to do so.

You still might wish to give your current world a chance - players tend to be a bit reclusive to new people due to bad experiences with people asking for help or suddenly quitting, which is understanding, so while I cannot speak for your particular world, it might take some time to establish yourself. You may still find your particular server more welcoming as you get higher levels and more reputation.

However if you still do not find your current world to your liking after some time and you cannot find a reliable linkshell even by doing some shouts in Jeuno, then asking around on community websites for servers people consider positive might be a good start (or you could check and see if any more of your friends play). Don't forget factors like server economies, populations, and even what the shouts are like in Jeuno (which can all be checked on FFXIAH). If you are dead set on changing servers you'll want to do this essential research (although I can't really give more advice on how since I've always been on Valefor).

Thanks again Economizer, priceless info. We're not looking to jump ship right away, just what I've seen over the last couple days in Jeuno. It's been so long since we've talked to anyone from the old server I wouldn't even remember their names.

Before we left last time CoP was out and Dynamis was the thing to do (after getting AF1.. hated that on my PLD). So far we're enjoying it even though it's really been just us duo'ing through everything and coming to the harsh realization that you need to unlock everything again and the need to get your missions done as soon as possible. A couple times we said hey.. let's go here and do this.. oh wait, we can't because we need to travel there but can't use the airship and don't have a chocobo license (which i got last night YAY! no more running). Forgot how much the game made you appreciate the achievements of unlocking everything.

But anyway I'm starting to rant, thanks again for the info.

So it started with 2 of us and now it's up to 4 after talking to some old friends and they've come back with us as well. Due to the lack of returning/beginner friendly LS' we've created our own and invite anyone that's coming back or just joined the game to /sea me, Galamear, Nirok, or Mordyn. Usually we're online together and leveling but we'll take the time to answer questions or get you a LS.
