Tossing Relics/Empyreans/Mythics and the lack of restore capabilities for them.

Not sure if I'm posting this in the right spot, so sorry in advance.

Copy/pasting a majority of this from ffxiah forums.

I'm the type of person that literally always triple checks when I toss things, or buys things out of bazaar or ah that's worth more than 50k. The worst I've done in ~7 years of playing, is accidentally tab down in the ah and not notice while bidding, and bid 40k on the wrong pair of shoes.

This morning I was tired and grumpy, and overly derpy. I barely slept the night before, and finally just dragged myself out of bed and decided to go AE cleave my whm mule or something. I was sorting through my inventory, and noticed I had a Vermeil Bhuj in my inventory from doing Glavoids last night. I thought I was on it, but apparently I wasn't - the next thing I saw in my log was "You throw away a Mandau." I'm not looking for any sympathy, I should've been taking a lot more care with what I had selected. I'm well aware it was my own fault. Pretty much the very first time I wasn't extremely anal about checking what I was tossing, and it cost me very dearly.

Anyways, on to my point. Obviously, I placed a GM call immediately. A normal GM replied to me pretty quickly, however I was told that they can't restore the item because "the mandau is an item that contains internal data (being a trial weapon), and is not something we can recover", nor will they do a rollback to this morning before I tossed it. They won't reimburse the LV75 version, either. I asked to talk with a SGM, and am still waiting. Regardless of the outcome with the SGM, I'd like to make a few suggestions:

If gms "can't" (more like don't want to be bothered to) do a restore on these items, why are they even able to be thrown away in the first place? I would like to suggest a special "destroy" npc - where you have to actually trade your relic/mythic/empyrean and that NPC will destroy it, if for whatever reason you no longer wish to have that item. (Or some sort of similar system, just trying to make a point - they just plain shouldn't be tossable, and if you do want to get rid of them, have a system in place that makes it very clear that's what you're doing).

Why are some items restorable, and others aren't? I've been told now by two GMS that my Mandau isn't restorable because it contains "trail data", but there was just a very popular case where someone had their Lv90 Almace restored. How, and why, is that different? Looking from the outside, it just looks like pure favoritism. Secondly, I'd be happy with another Lv75 version of it (which again, I told wasn't possible, despite the fact that Relics were in-game years before any sort of augmented and/or trial data were implemented).

If Empyrean/Relics/Mythics can't just be re-made if they're accidentally tossed, how are they made when mog bonanza comes along?

I completely understand that GMS can't restore every item that someone accidentally tosses, because there has to be some sort of player accountability at times. A one-time restore per account fits this pretty well. However, the restore system really fails the player base when it can't even be used to restore Augmented items, when that's what the majority of the game revolves around right now.... and especially if it can't even be used for such big ticket items as Relics, Mythics and Empyreans. In some cases, we're talking about potentially months to years of people's lives here.

End of the line- there should really be some sort of restore capabilities if someone tosses an item like this. Having zero restore capabilities for the biggest in-game items is about the biggest slap in the face you could possibly give to your player-base.

I have an Apocalypse but im not sure if it ever gave me a title, reason im stating this is because I did exactly what you did cept with my blackbelt in 2007 and i kept trying and trying to call gms for help, until i read about some story on BG where the player was able to get a title for his blackbelt to prove he had it and the gm saw it wasnt on his person, I did the same and well about a month ago this year 2012 my blackbelt was restored and I was super happy.

honestly just keep trying and trying I called a GM once a month since 07 for some kind of help and I finally got lucky and honestly the GM who returned my blackbelt mentioned he had other cases where he did have relics restored, i'd keep trying, gl to you

p.s I had already burned an item restore in the past so the blackbelt was my 2nd (second) item restoration.

Maybe I'm entirely wrong now but I seem to remember trial items being restorable, but you'd lose the trial progress and augments.

    Yes they should be restorable

and Relics Mythics and Emperyan should be undroppable and have an undroppable moogle slip to store them (could store 85-99 verisons)

    but common sense

I am sad to see a story like this.

I have always been very careful on what I buy/sell/drop in this game, heard so many stories of people losing items or lots of gil due to pure human error, and not having anything done to help them.
My worst case, was when I dropped my social linkshell which I had using for a number of years, it had a lot of sentimental value and it was gutting that I had to build it from scratch.

I couldn't imagine what I would do if I lost a Relic, I only just managed to get my first super weapon (Redemption), and I have been playing since 2004, so I know just how much time and effort it can take to build these weapons.
SE has the power to restore any item, I don't understand why the GMs have to upset you, when its clear your already upset, it is not a good way to keep people playing this game.

Seriously if SE didn't give me back my relic/mythic/empyrean, I would quit the game, I would be so upset and feel so betrayed by Square Enix.

SE... restore her Mandau, its the right thing to do, its not going to break the game, and I am sure it won't take up too much of your time.

Should indeed be something like what the moogle slips have on them.

Granted, they're not as bad to create as they used to be, but they're still more or less insane.
Especially since they 'messed' it up with the trial system. If they can't fix that, then force players to talk to a NPC or something similar to get rid of such items (all trial items). I doubt it would be a bother to anyone, and would be something very much appreciated when the mistake does happen.

That way, they would not have to bother with the item-restoration policies and what nots, either.

    I definitely agree with Calipso.

There shouldn't be any reason whatsoever to not being able to restore such as important item in a game. I mean, you can check it out on log for the love of god... I'm sure nobody in their common sense would drop a relic/empy/mythic on purpose.

That, for sure, has to change and not being trapped in unnecessary bureaucracy.

Hope you get you relic dagger back.

I had a similar issue last year where my Empyrean went missing (presumed accidentally tossed). I got through to both a GM and SGM concerning this, and they were unable to restore it due to "it conflicting with a quest" or something to that effect simply because I had obtained it via Trial of the Magains. The SGM later told me they are completely unable to restore anything from ToM full stop.

Relics/Mythics/Empyreans get the Augment tag thrown on them automatically even if not augmentted. I noticed when SE introduced Relic +2 armour that when you upgrade via ToM these do not get the Augment tag until you start/complete the Merit augment trial. My question being, why can't SE apply this to Relics, Mythics and Empyreans? Even if they can't, they should at the very least make these weapons exempt from the unable to restore rule.

I've asked SE before, I'm asking again now:
Whats the point in an item restore system when it effectively excludes the most difficult to obtain sets of weapons?

Why not give a tossing protection thing to all relic/emp/mythic weapons? I highly doubt anyone, for any reason what so will ever to toss one of those weapons that isn't an accident. the moogle slips have them when an item is in them, give the same thing to weapons.

    Greetings, Calipso.

The loss of your Mandau is certainly unfortunate and we understand your frustration. We can also appreciate that you want to express your being upset at this loss and at the item restore policy. I can assure you that we do everything we can do in these situation and we treat every report of such a loss with the same respect. When it comes to the loss of such a valuable item we definitely want to be able to assist in its recovery, regrettably, what items we can and cannot recover are not decided upon by the GM team.

Since the area you posted this thread in is for bug reports, it will have to be locked. However, we want you to have an outlet to express your feelings on this concern and on our policies. Please consider leaving feedback so that your situation may be reviewed and perhaps this policy can be altered in the future. This can be done at the following link under Feedback & Suggestions.

Thank you for your understanding and apologies for any inconvenience,
