Thanks everyone posting in this thread - I guess I mostly was frustrated at not being able to get back up to speed on the time frame that I wanted - nor having the freedom to do what I wanted in the content.

While I can relate to the OP, since I'm in an events shell that mostly does Abyssea NMs, I can also understand why the time restriction is in place. You could park a level 30 character in the zone (which many people do anyway) and just completely AFK to exp. Having the time restriction at least adds some sort of method for booting these people after a certain amount of time.
I would propose raising the level requirement to something reasonable like 75 if they were going to abolish the time restriction. Even with great gear, atma, etc, it's extremely difficult to fight anything at a lower level than that.
It isn't only the sub-30s that would afk in zone indefinitely, but I do like your stealthy suggestion :P
Honestly, time limits for special zones are good. The force you to go somewhere with a purpose, do whatever it is you went there to do, and leave.
Of course, EXP and other items are faster to come by within those time limits, which is a good give-and-take.
I think that Sea, Promyvion and other areas would have benefitted from that kind of system.
