We Want A North American FanFest!

The last time we had an NA FanFest was back in 2008. Since then, Japan has had several VanaFests with the rest of the world simply getting a video stream in a language they can't understand accompanied by tweets that either lag behind, or are unable to provide all of the information presented in these live streams.

With Final Fantasy XI celebrating it's 10th anniversary, this year VanaFest is two days long! This is huge considering the Japanese event in the past has been strictly a stage show. To have mini concerts, live quests, and more is a big change for the overseas event.

It's great that we'll be getting coverage of the event from the Community Reps, however I think the NA community would enjoy having their own FanFest again.

So what's going on? Will there be a FanFest in North America this year? Or any year for that matter?

I'll be somewhere inane like LA and on a major holiday weekend, to maximize the minimization of attendance to prove that they shouldn't be doing it in the first place. Besides, isn't this like 8 years too late? lol

They stopped doing Fanfest in NA right around the time of the mass wrongful bannings that happened Ive noticed. I feel They didn't do another here for fear of a protest or riot. I'm sure if I was able to make it to one I would be the 1st to throw a brick at them.

Why don't we just organize our own FFXI convention?

It's not just my affiliation with the Podcast that pushed me to draw this conclusion; its simply put, a necessity.

Assuming the overlap between the FFXI playerbase and fans of anime/sci-fi is as large as I think it is, I'm sure that there are a lot of us that have been to or volunteered at a convention before who would know where to begin. And even if not, message board silliness and Jeuno shouts notwithstanding, FFXI players seem to be a fairly intelligent set of people. I'm sure we could figure it out.
