    Windowed mode screen resolution

So basically I've just come back to FFXI after a year-long hiatus. I'm using a new laptop and trying to play in windowed mode but I just can't get a good resolution which A) fits on my screen, B) isn't tiny and C) doesn't squash/stretch the game.

My screen is 1366x768. Does anyone have a good resolution for me to use? The main problem is that the bottom of the window is cut off. The width is fine. The window borders are what is causing the problem.

I've tried using a code to remove the borders which I use in other games but this doesn't seem to want to work with the FFXI window (and I don't know whether this is 'cheating', etc, pfft).

Given that I flat-out refuse to play in true fullscreen as alt+tab still crashes the game (seriously, SE?) and don't want to play in a tiny window, I'm a bit stuck for what to do. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

P.S. Seriously SE, windowed mode with no borders would have been a nice addition a good few years back.

If you get any answers, I'd love to hear them as well, because I'm in the same boat. I'm hoping that when they change the fonts to TrueType instead of BMP and change the icons (upcoming fixes to the UI), that hopefully resolutions will be ninja patched in, as well.

    Here's hoping...

Also I realise there are ways to solve this issue... certain... ways... but we do not talk about those, and they do not work for me anyway.

I sincerely hope the devs will look into this to include with the UI changes. I don't know why fullscreen windowed mode with no border hasn't been implemented already.

Seen this weird behavior in other games before. Sometimes it was an issue with the taskbar that was resolved by setting it to auto hide (right-click the task bar, go to properties, and toggle the auto-hide feature). Had to do this to my daughter's lappy for Flyff to behave. Even then, still have to sometimes resort to the other thing--reduce the window size by eitther dragging the edges or hitting the / icon, and then clicking the "boxes" icon to maximize it again.

Otherwise, you might have to resort to the old trick of setting it slightly lower then the actual desktop resolution, and then maximizing it. Unfortunately, this has the side effect of stretching a lower resolution, so it can have some adverse side effects. Make sure to keep the same aspect ratio, and make the size as close to full screen as possible. For instance, you could try 1352 x 760 to keep it 16:9 aspect, but just slightly under full screen so the borders fit (with no taskbar), then maximize it. You also may need to check the aspect ratio while in game if you are experiencing seriously warped graphics--you may not be set to 16:9.

I'm currently running FFXI in official windowed mode.

Upon maximizing the window, I measured the actual inside dimensions of the window (using Pixel Ruler), and then used registry editor to set that as my Overlay and Background resolutions.

In my case, I am using a display at 1200x800 resolution (on Windows 7 -- the default heights for taskbar and borders may be slightly different in other versions), and my adjusted FFXI resolution turned out to be 1276x735 (originally, I measured it as 1278x737, but turned out I was off by 1 pixel on each border).
