    Ultimate Collection Question

I'm about to purchase the ultimate collection for some of the expansions and add on's i don't have yet. Also getting the beret is nice too. My question is that I currently have ffxi installed. I'm buying the collection from steam and if i do so will it overwrite my current copy of ffxi? I just want to register the add ons i don't have yet and the in game item but i'm worried that everything i have now will be erased.

I also want to make sure all my macros are saved. Does anyone know where they are saved to in the game files so i can make a copy? i'm assuming in the user file but i don't see anything that indicates macros or text commands.

If switching from a disk install to a Steam install, you'll want to completely uninstall your exisiting FFXI first. Steam installs in a new directory structure, and all the registry keys will point to this new location.

You can backup/restore your macros to the SE server at the character select screen (where it shows your toon standing in the field, with a list of names in the lower right corner). It defaults to saving/restoring with the server, but if you hit the down arrow key, you have 4 local save slots as well. On the PS2, I think it was the 4 triggger buttons and then one of the shape buttons is used for backup, while another was used for restore--not entirely sure about that.

Before the the uninstall and then Steam re-install, might want to save off your entire FFXI folder to an external drive or alternate folder location if you have the room. This will enable you to copy your already patched ROM files (copy and overwrite just the folders under the Final Fantasy XI folder that have numbers, or the word ROM or SOUND in them (189, 190, ROM, ROM2, ROM3, Sound, Sound2, etc) into the new install). This will reduce the size of the update that will kick off when you first log into to the new Steam install. It will still want to patch the POL part and the additional ROM/DAT's for the new expansions--but you won't be downloading a year's worth (or more) of updates for the rest. Having the backup copy may also be needed if the SE backup doesn't restore your map markers... forget what all is sent to the server. The users folder holds all that data, just not sure what file is what.

Go to service options located on the left hand side of the page and click on the blue button that says add a service and click FFXI you should then see a typical entry field for reg codes/cdkeys. After you enter the code you will be given the chance to choose which account to apply the code to so if u have multiple POL IDs make sure you use the correct one.
The OP is missing Expansions--entering codes won't grant access without installing the data. He/she also won't have access to the add-ons if the required expansions are not installed. So, in this case, an install will be required.
