    Error POL-0250

    Hello,

I'm trying to install the game on my Xbox 360 and I keep having this error. I had the game installed on a previous Xbox but deleted it (and all content associated with it) before moving over to this one. Now everything has installed properly and the POL viewer updated without an issue. But now when trying to update the game something really weird happens.

It starts off saying that I have 1:45:xx remaining, drops to 30:00 remaining and then 7:30 minutes remaining. Then when it reaches about 61% (with the time reading about 1:30 it just aborts and gives me this error message.

    To try dealing with this:

I've swapped hard drives with a fresh one to see if that was the problem.

I've checked my router settings to make sure the firewall is turned off, the NAT is still open and all the appropriate ports are forwarded.

I aborted using the wireless and tried using a wired connection through the router.

I disconnected the router and connected the Xbox straight to the modem.

I rebooted the router numerous times and tried to see if that would help.

I tried adding the Xbox to a DMZ to go around the port issues.

I swapped modems and routers to see if that was the issue.

I tried to brute force this by doing it repeatedly but after about 15 tries I'm losing hope.

Someone suggested turning on the UPnP settings but I literally can't find that anywhere so I'm not sure what the heck there is left to try.

So this is still an issue. I'm not sure what the problem is, I've spoken to my ISP to make sure that FFXI isn't blocked for some reason but I've got nothing. Any help would be appreciated so I don't have to cancel my subscription.

Sounds like a routing issue. Many times this is tripped by the SPI Firewall on the router. Easy way around it is to just disable the firewall, but you will want to have a local firewall setup if you do this (ideally something friendlier then the Windows firewall, like ZoneAlarm or Comodo firewall perhaps). If you keep the firewall active on the router, you will either need to manually setup the port range(s) to forward to your system, or setup UPnP. UPnP will have it's own setting for enable/disable in the router config. You'll need to consult your router's documentation for all the details on where it all is, but it is usually nested in the Advanced settings when you sign into your router's management page.

I think the XB360 is UPnP compliant by default, and should takeover from there--if not, you may need to go into the network config to toggle the service on/off.
