Error code: FFXI 3001

After character selection page it then shows me in game and downloading data for the zone i'm in before my character shows i get this error code i'm sylph server anyone else having this problem or know how to fix it?

a lot of the time, this is tripped by loss of communication.

Try bypassing your router and going directly to your modem. If this resolves it, make sure your router is configured properly for allowing FFXI traffic to pass through (port forwarding, might have to disable some of the more intense NAT security options, etc.).

If all that fails, inspect your router/firewall/security/etc. logs to see if you are getting a blocked/timed-out connection during this time frame. Most likely it is a DNS call (port 53) or a UDP connection from an SE server that is getting lost. Sometimes it won't even be something you can control--it's a routing issue between you and SE. If you are seeing it being blocked by the firewall, research the IP address (sometimes all you need to do is google the IP and you'll get a link to a who-is lookup, from there you can find out who owns the IP block containing that IP). If you can verify that it is a valid SE address, whitelist it for the app/device that was blocking it.

Otherwise, you may need to note the IP addresses and contact your ISP to help you investigate. There are some IP's known to be owned by SE in other threads here. I will copy/paste them in as an edit once I find them again.

On allakhazam, some users had a discussion about bitdefender causing some odd behavior as well with certain zones (after disabling or uninstalling, all their problems disappeared). It might be worth a shot to add exceptions for the FFXI folders and the executables as well in your security software, just in case it is somehow related.

It's happened to me before after they've gone in and done some tweaking with their networks...how I found the 124.xxx.xxx.xxx block of IP's a while back. It's actually a bigger block than listed above, think it was 150-154 in the second octave. I got stuck in a loop trying to log in to Port Windhurst, added the exception to my firewall and all was well again.

Note I edited the previous post a bit as you were posting to reference another issue that had come up regarding bitdefender on another site. Might want to add an exception to your software for the FFXI folder and it's executables if you haven't already.

I have also been having this problem, though I am being disconnected after using outpost warp from Port Windhurst, and GoV/FoV book, and most recently, Port Jueno Abssea warp to Xarcabard. I would like to note that this has only been occurring to me since the 3/26/2012 update. The problem has grown worse since the 4/2/2012 update, in that occasionally I will be disconnected from the lobby and when trying to get back in recieving the messege that I have no content ID (which is active until 4/5 and will auto-pay on that date)

I am currently trying the advice listed in these posts to remedy the issue....

after checking all hardware/software settings, making sure all exceptions are in place, I am still having the same issue, as well as error code 3100. I even (temporarily) took the drastic measure of shutting off my firewall, all to no avail.
Since this problem began occurring only after the last updates, I was wondering if it was possible that it could be a software problem of some sort.

I am also having this problem and not sure what is causing it. I play both FFXI and FFXIV and can log in and play FFXIV fine but when I try and log into FFXI it times out after the character selection. When I go back to the game menu to try to log in again I find that there is no sound. Is this problem related to the updates? If not I find it strange that I can play one SE game and not another atm. No settings have been changed on the pc or router.
