I just replaced the buffers with the functions of the triggers on my version for when I play on my laptop, sure I miss 2 functions of the controller, but not ones I find that important. Oddly enough I still prefer playing on my 360, I find it more responsive, my laptop's graphics card doesn't seem to get along too well with the game, it's a crappy Intel GMA, yet it manages SW:TOR just fine, but then FFXI isn't all that well optimised. However, for Besieged and VW I have to use my laptop because those events love crashing 360s.![]()

Yes I do this but with a PS3 controller. I just moved into new apartment and my PC is not in the living room and will not be in there next to the TV. I could drag it out there to play but the real reason is for xbox party chat since I will be playing with some friends on xbox and the main friend doesn't have a PC for voice chat. I know it sounds silly but they are the only reason I am coming back to the game, lack of communication with them would be pointless for me to even play, after all your friends in game are what keep the game fun..at least for me.
That being said my friend forgot he had 2 copies of FFXI for xbox so he is going to ship it to me tomorrow. Thanks to everyone who helped out here!
My personal experience with this (today, I have it updating while I type this).
I picked the 2008 disc to replace my 2006 XBOX360 disc (all up to ToAU) and booted the game. It updated alright but WotG and all mini expansions that required it were grayed out (well it seems like just having the disc is not enough. I thought the update was going to fix it, but it was the last game update it downloaded).
I ended logging out and performing an re-install of FFXI, choosing it to keep macro data.
Now it's doing a full post reinstall update.
So if you have the old disc and don't want to go through this get the WotG disc. If you can't find a WotG disc but can buy a 2008 collection, save your time, install FFXI from on top of the existing install right away.
You hadn't installed the expansions from the 2008 disc yet on your Xbox. Collection discs don't let you install individual expansions, just like the PS2, so you have to do a complete reinstall.
I honestly dont recommend getting FFXi for the Xbox.
1: Its Laggy.
2: The Xbox Can't handle most of FFXI's Features, EX: Endgame, Besteigd, ectect
3: The WAAY to much money.
4: Its impossible to find at Retail shops (ex: Gamestop)
5: the start-up Patch is longer.
In all means you should just stay with the PC, Its better :3
