Parsimony? use Manawell.

Actually this one has been bugging me. I don't see why Meteor isn't just given an MP cost of 99999 and not limited by Elemental Seal. This way you'd be able to cast it with Manawell or under Manafont. Perhaps the devs wanted Manawell to be used tactically on other players in the party as well or something, however it would be nice if Meteor was castable under Manafont regardless of if Elemental Seal had been used or not.

Apparently the test information hasn't filtered over. Here's the final damage from a series of 7 tests using 6 blms (each using different gear, and varying cast order each time to determine the combination effect), courtesy of Byrth:



Yes, 60k damage from 6 blms, so an average of 10k damage each by contributing to this spell. This is not a solo spell, but it's far from useless.

did you already have a Laevateinn 99 or am i just missing the moogle that gives 99 relics/mythics/and such out?

The magian moogle can give them out. Check Trial # that rewards it > view reward > it asks if you want to obtain the item > profit.

Yes, every weapon on every stage of the trials that goes through magian moogle (relic/empy/mythic/fake WoE/elemental path weapons). Have fun.

Judging from Byrth's testing on this, Meteor uses a different damage formula to normal nukes. Even Elemental magic skill plays a factor in it's damage, and INT plays more of a factor in this than other nukes.

It almost surely would have taken less work to code if they did it that way instead of making special rules for an ability.

If they're making Arise 'extremely difficult to obtain such that only a few WHMs will have it" then I can almost guarantee they will make Meteor hard to get because 60-80k damage ever 8-9 minutes is probably more broken than Arise can be.

Both of them probably come from voidwatch's final battle or something, since they're in the same patch (or presumed to be in it)

Not that anybody cares, but:

I went into ballista with a few people to test. I wanted to see if there was a status effect on the target or something while the other mages were completing their spells.

The combo-casting component does not work in Ballista. It may or may not be a bug (may want to try casting on a charmed player to confirm). If multiple BLMs cast meteor in ballista, it treats them all as the singular version of the spell.

Remember guys, the spell has a good right to be ridiculously powerful- You need to gather 5-6 BLMs for it to be worth the MP cost and use of Seal. Fewer than that, you should just multi-cast a Ja spell instead.

I meant an AoE version of that "line" meant for a solo BLM. Comet obviously isn't AoE. Meteor obviously isn't for a solo BLM either. Meteor's viewed by some as an "AoE" version of Comet, myself included.

Arise isn't even broken. It's just a nifty spell that's different. If it granted no weakness and full HP, then, yes, it would be broken IMHO.

Honestly, I'm not sure. If they want people to be able to experience Meteor the way it's intended to be used, it can't be TOO difficult. The damage would imply it would be, yes, and it wouldn't surprise me if it ended up that way. Also since it's non-elemental, and the reality that not many BLM will have a Laevateinn, let alone do one, it'll be slightly weaker than we are discovering, as we all know MAB+60 on one item is "huge". I don't see it doing 60-80k when it hits the live servers, and some tests I've read have involved a few 99 Laevateinns. I'd say a more "realistic" test would involve grabbing the lv99 INT/MAB staves, as they'd be more common than even Dorjes. Heck, even Maleficus, as much as wearing one to nuke in makes me shudder as a serious BLM. Personal stigma against the sight of it, I guess.
