    Prove it. You can't.

Your analysis of that thread is also flawed and biased.
You're definition for the Like button here is flawed, Saying what you just did proves that. Hurtful has nothing to do with the Like button nor a dislike button, There shouldn't be any feeling involved. Agreeing and not agreeing with the poster. If we all didn't have our different point of views, We'd all be the same person.

Actually there is proof that exist. Look under all my old posts, and read most the insults I got for my typing, and see how many "LIKES" each post got. Its actually pretty common in forums. It's the high school mantality I was mentioning. If the "popular" thing is to insult a person with a mental disability. People will, thinking it is cool and will make them popular.

On one forum last year, I forget which mmo it was for, I posted a comment which I agree'd with what the majority stated. Said posters i agree'ed with then started to pick on me because of my typing. It happens on the W.o.W forums as well as Aion.
This is what forums turned into. They USED to be a way for players to make connections outside of the game.

As I stated as long as we keep out personal like or dislike of the poster, I see no issue with a like and dislike button. As long as we do not abuse such things.

More proof is the tag insults people did, such as lolumad.

That's funny, because I don't even consider myself a casual player. I've put in over 800 days in 8 years.

How is people flagging all your posts with dislikes not hurtful or intended to be hurtful?

Lots of boards have systems to recognize good/useful posts (I like "Thanks" systems better- "Thanks for this useful post" doesn't imply liking or disliking it, but rather that you got something out of reading it.). Very few offer the ability to show disdain. There just might be a reason for that, hmm?

I get that all the time too. But it's at most 1-3 likes on those people's posts, when the posts that offer meaningful information or good ideas get dozens. You can pretty much tune out any "like" count of <5.

Okay, Lets just agree on a few things. Both the Like Button and Dislike button Suck.

    both lead to "Cliques" Forming
Both are highly Negative to a forum
    And both cause complaining.

No matter how you try and sugar coat your logic for a dislike button, It means nothing more than "I hate this person but I don't want them to know it, and I don't know why i hate them nor can i produce a valid counter-argument, so give me an "Easy" button so i can discredit them anonymously every time I see them regardless of what they post".

Dislike buttons have absolutely no redeeming quality. People can spot out wrong information simply by the fact that person who spews it will likely have 5-6 people telling them they're wrong.

Personally, I feel a "Like" Button has slightly more merit than a "Dislike" Button. Dislike Buttons are basically an anonymous butthurt button. Their only real use it to dislike people you hate. As noble as your intention may be, Unfortunately, the human race is no one near as intelligent or non-petty we'd hope.

    The like/Dislike System is ultimately pretty useless here i Think, As most of us barely even "Like" posts, We just read it, and move on, even if with agree. Compared to the JP, Who Have posts with 50-60+ Likes on average >_>;

Moving to more "In General" here. All things considered, It says a lot about us as a people, that is, we're the only ones asking for a Dislike. Are you people so insecure, petty, and spineless that you have to have a way to discredit someone without actually having to give reasons why and remove your anonymous hatred? Just respond to their damn post and tell them why you disagree.

Then, your post suddenly becomes the "Dislike" Button for the opposite post, Because if more people Like you, It means more people disagree with him. Thats how conflicting arguments generally work out with likes involved.

That's not proof of anything. That's a bunch of people individually arriving at the same conclusion.

    ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

The only thing it proves is that you said some pretty stupid stuff. If there had been dislike buttons, You would probably have more dislikes than those people had likes.

You can't walk into a forum on a FFXI board and say something like "FFXI Sucks losers", and obviously a bunch of people will respond saying "you're wrong" and those people will get likes, and act like thats proof of clicks. No, It just means you said something stupid, and people happen to agree with those who are calling out your stupid.

If you want a true vision of the Abuse Like/Dislike systems cause? Spend a day on FFXIAH, you can probably find 80-100 Examples in your first few minutes. Hell, Visit my page and the people who commented on mine, Thats the funniest, Especially the one girl who commented on my page with -36, Check out her page.

Point being: An Anonymous Butthurt Button will not improve this forum.

    Something just occurred to me...

If large amounts of "Like"s are used to get the attention of people who forward things to other people, is it possible one of my more-liked posts about the Development Team running around naked has been translated and forwarded all the way to the Development Team because of immutable company policies about forwarding things?

If they're summarized along the way, I can only imagine that one day the Development Team walked into work to discover the vital feedback, "I feel the Development Team does not wear trousers often enough."

Your posts probably flood their inbox if likes has anything to do with it.
