Personally I'd rather them take the the "Like" button out all together. As stated friends and clique on here just "Like" each others post anyway. There are people that EVERYTIME they post its followed the the same amount "Like" each time.
There is little point posting when you disagree with something because if the shouty minority are on board with it, you get flamed. With that in mind, a Disagree button would be much more handy.
Don't need disagree..
Just an agree button..
Then when it shows the number of who agreed it says this.
(X) out of (X) readers agreed/liked this post.
The other people who read it can choose to leave it be if they don't like/agree with it.

Hello everyone,
Just coming back to ffxi, and its forums. And this thread peaked my interest. I agree with some of the posters. Most people on ANY forum (gaming or other) use "Like" or "Dislike" in a "clique-ish" way. Pretty much like the high school mantality. People will like their friends reguardless of the post. And people will dislike anyone they hate reguardless of the post. I'm a poster child of it as most here know. Most everything I typed, people ganged up on me. And most was just my personal opinion.
If posters can use the "like" and "dislike" buttons as "agree" or "disagree" and leave out the bashing. I see nothing wrong with it.
I think, if we can learn to leave out our person opinions of the poster, this forum wouldn't be so bad. Most people in game see this forum as a joke. And tell newbies not to post here. Mostly because chances are people will be smart mouths. I'm for the like/agree and dislike/disagree as long as people don't abuse it. Like bash people with it.
They do that now in a liking way, Also you see all those "likes 1~3", That is their other accounts 99.8% of the time. That is why before I comment on the OP I say if I agree with them or not in the 1st place, Others should follow suit. ^^
Example how threads get broken and off topic.

Gives into the Instigator, Cause said Instigator knows this already and wanted them to spell it out for them. Which breaks the topic cause now its about which is a better controller one should be using. The whole point is how many agree that the Xbox 360 controller should be fixed.Originally Posted by Poster

You can't prove that the reason for those likes is to hate on Mary. I find it highly unlikely that Jake has 59 friends that all want to jump on the hate bandwagon. That post probably has more likes simply because more people agree with it than the first post.Like "59" <- Jake doesn't like Mary so they got all their buddies together to camp their thread. This Like is really an Unlike. So basically this is unliking someone in a liking way!
More proof against your thought. I'm HARDLY a popular person on these boards and I'm sure some of you know that. But I still get likes if I post something intelligent that people agree with. People are far more likely to "like" a good post than to band together to like a post attacking the person because they don't like them personally. But the act of doing so still is far less hurtful than the same number of people who liked the attacker instead disliking the first poster.
Prove it. You can't.That is their other accounts 99.8% of the time.
Your analysis of that thread is also flawed and biased.
