unless your smn magic skill is in the toilet you can solo all the avatars on smn. Hell the 6 main avatars we used to solo on thf, dnc, nin, smn, etc at 75. Although the funnest was rdm/nin solos (oh rdm/nin how i miss your glory days)
When I needed avatars, my roomie tore apart not only the 6 elemental but also diablos and feni as well with his smn so its definitely doable. Really almost any job should be able to take out the 6 elementals at 99. The only one that most likely couldnt would be whm, but who knows that even may be possible.
As told Fenrir is soloable without any problem by smn @99.
made a couple of times with garuda, the only difference with the "base" avatars is that you need to resummon 1 time garuda (if the PC are landing right, u will summon again when fenrir is @15ish% hp).
the resummon is just to be safe. with a whispering wind u can avoid also the resummon.
Diabolos is duable (also solable). went with a 99sam/dnc with masamune took down to 16% with first WS chains.
Don't make the #1 mistake most new smns make and rely 100% on garuda and shiva to get things done. I hear you talk garuda for this and garuda for that. Every avatar has its pros and cons and ifrit, levi, ramuh, etc may be better in some situations than garuda. So many new summoners use garuda and shiva almost exclusively with not-so-good results. Its like bst who use 1-2 jugs. You need to learn what strengths each avatar has so you know when to use them.
Garuda and shiva are good in some situations. Garuda for instance can tear Turul apart but if you try to use her on Bakka the fight will be 200% harder than if you use Shiva. Same with Ironclad Executioner which Levi can rip apart but garuda will fail on more often than not and the fight will double, triple, quadruple in length.
Since RDM could do them all bar Diabolos, Alexander and Odin at 75, I should assume EVERY job can now do it with and possibly without a /mage subjob
Garuda as all the other avatars is situational Mostflow.
but since from lev 75 is the easiest to equip (Harura Hakigane) giving the lowest perp. cost, a boost in defence and attack i think when a particular mob does not have specific weakness Garuda is still the best choice. This, plus his healing ability grants you the easiest best combo you can have. despite his darkness base i will not go with Carby just for weakness on Fenrir!
but of course is normal that if you have a specific weakness mob, u can use the specific avatar (e.g. the ironclads with Leviathan).
Just to try the Tomberry Lejie without Leviathan to understand how important is the strenghts and weaknesses
for avatars all can be fougth well @99smn (/sch or /whm) until Fenrir. From there u have to stop (at least @Diabolos, because i re-start game with a new char and not tried fighting Alexander & Odin)
