    Returning Character: PS2 expansions issue.

    Hello.

I recently started fresh after about a five year hiatus. My ps2 has the 08 vanadeil collection, containing all expansions up to WOTG. I even managed to hang onto the install disc. Now that's magic.

I don't seem to have access to expansion areas. Specifically, Bibiki Bay. As Im logging in, where it shows the list of expansions.. none of them are lit. They're dark like they're not there.Nothing, from rise of Zilart and up. I know the game is playable. Before I left I had a 75bst. I obviously used areas included from AU expansion as well as wotg. Im just confused.

As I said, with starting fresh I've only traveled as far as jeuno, but went to Bibiki to exp. Told me I didn't have access. Id also like to add the following add ons, but the basic expansions are priority.

The game has changed alot since I left. Idk how to feel about it.

Honestly, I would suggest you just spend the nine bucks for the PC version with everything included and you'll also get a nifty hat (good to level 30, all jobs; Auto-Regen/Refresh/Reraise, 25% movement speed increase, faster skillups). Most of the recent updates have ignored PS2 specs, including graphic updates and even a 10 year old PC can play the game better than a PS2.

As far as the changes go-- If you see yourself craving high level, end-game activities and wasting hours trying to look good in spiffy clothes, then you're in the right place. If you are seeking the classic feel with making new friends, working in teams and getting to learn your job as you level? That game died two years ago.

I do not apologize for my sarcasm, I just ask that you have a damn sense of humor. I'm the comic relief, dammit!

I knew after a certain point, that the game would make a shift..obviously that time has already come.
I thought my main concern would be getting help with cop missions, sky, sea etc.
I really came back for the grind. For the aggro, the dunes, the frustrations.
It made me feel like I earned 75. That I had accomplished something.
Now, that's all been handed out, its kind of a kick in the teeth.

Has the game become more soloable? Perhaps I could hold onto my old ideals and earn my way through.
Idk. I think I might just go.

    Teegrins!

As long as the expansions are actually installed, and registered to the account you are using, they should 'light up'.

Can't think of any other reason for them to not be there, than not having them installed/registered.
If both are a OK, then I imagine you could try contacting the Account/Billing support via the Support Centre/Center.

I would also suggest hopping over to the PC-camp, though, if only possible.
There have been additions not included for the PS2 version, and all in all I think it's the better environment for the game.

And yes, the game is a lot more solo-friendly now, and you can achieve quite a lot as a duo, or even more as a trio (if you ever liked completing the missions and do Salvage and such, you can do that mostly with just 3, or less).

It's all still not handed out, unless you insist on 'leeching' on stuff.
I don't, and find some challenge from not crowding upon NMs and so on, though the more new stuff will be/are more geared towards large parties/alliances, yet again.

Many say it's not worth our money any longer, and I am thinking of at least taking a break soon, after many years, but I would still recommend you to check it out for yourself because you are the only one who can really tell in the end.

    Just some thoughts~

    Best of luck!

Are you using the very same account you used years ago? Expansions are tied to your account, not the system, so if you've started a new account you won't have access to them.

Yes, this game is now extremely solo friendly. You can probably hit 50 by yourself in less than a week. If you do book burns, you can hit 50 in a day. Level once was a badge of honor. Now it's just a number. After doing all of your limit breaks, you can, and I shit you not, take a job from 1-99 in about a day and a half if you are a casual player. And because you can hit 50 so fast, you can actually solo your first four ranks. Most of CoP has been dumbed down. Level restrictions are mostly gone all across the board and the days of waiting in the dunes to have your face eaten by a Goblin are over. I don't think there is a mob left in this world that yields anything lower than 90exp, and with FoV, you're looking at a few hundred additional exp plus gil after killing certain amounts and types.

    Davidday,

Dragoy and Ziyyigo-Tipyigo are both correct in what information they’ve provided. As long as the expansions and add-ons are registered to the PlayOnline service account you are using, and installed on the system you are playing on, you will have access to that content. And the registration codes are tied to a particular PlayOnline service account, so if a new account has been started, you would need to make sure that the content is registered to that account. This can actually be confirmed through the SQUARE ENIX Account Management System:

    1) Log into the SQUARE ENIX Account Management System
    2) Click ‘Select Service’
    3) Click ‘PlayOnline / FINAL FANTASY XI’
    4) Locate the PlayOnline service account in question and click ‘Options List’
    5) All registered content is listed under the ‘Permanent Options’ section

I will leave this thread open so that if this turns out to be an installation-related issue, you can seek out the appropriate technical support here. But if this turns out to be something related to the PlayOnline service account itself, please contact the SQUARE ENIX Support Center appropriate to your region.
