This seems so pointless. If mages have it filtered, they're sucky mages. And no one even asked to filter it for your party/alliance, only for people outside of it.
And guess what? This, on the other hand, I do have filtered. I have the damage numbers and miss popups filtered and almost everyone I know has it too, because it's too cluttered on the screen in big fights and just messes up the visuals (and wouldn't be able to recognize it anyway). Also, who looks at the characters while fighting? Mages need to monitor the HP/MP bars as well as the chatlog to notice other status ailments. This would actually make it harder for all mages. A chatlog filter would only make it hard for stupid mages, because there's absolutely no reason to filter it for your party. If they do that, they deserve to have a bad reputation and not be invited to anything.
Not to mention, the paralyze messages are completely out of sync with the rest of the status messages, because they process every time a user performs an action. Even if a mage would have it filtered, they would still see you get paralyzed (it wouldn't filter the "X is paralyzed." message). Paralyze is the complete exception in that it reminds you constantly that a player is paralyzed. Imagine that would be the same for every other status ailment and the chatlog (or the screen, as you're suggesting it) would get flooded with "X is silenced.", "X is cursed.", "X has amnesia.", "X has Defense Down.", etc. It would be completely ridiculous.
Also, if you think a paralyze-filter would make a bad mage, are you saying we should remove the effect filters as well, because mages could have them on and wouldn't see people get silenced, slowed, paralyzed, etc.? Because apparently it has worked quite well for nearly a decade. As would a paralyze filter. Unlike your suggestion, which wouldn't do anything for many players, or would force players to turn this stupid feature on and focus on a third location on the screen constantly just to see the paralyze popups.
