A better idea than a Paralyze Filter

I posted this in another thread, but i figure i should make a topic concerning this.

I really don't think a paralyze filter would solve small things like chat log clutter, because it would be counter-productive on the mage perspective. If anyone would be so unlucky as to pick up a mage that doesn't paralyna, and your frontliners cant put up their abilities and cant melee...guess what? It's because they had that pesky paralyze filter on, which they god forbid refuse to turn off. All this for chat log space? I don't think so.

It's here that I'd like to ask for a graphical text reading, "Paralyzed!", which pops up on characters and monsters akin to that of "Miss!" when a character/mob misses a swing. It would certainly serve to serve as a better alternative if people were so concerned about chat log space. Plus, some mages might be able to catch it faster this way, making for better healing. And for those who are concerned about graphics being filtered, this is in the instance that the paralyze filter is abolished completely and players would still have to read the chatlog to see who is paralyzed or not.

So, really players, why put up with not getting paralyna because of a Mage having this filter on, when you can have graphic text that provides more signals to remove paralyze?

Idk if most mages look at the players fighting, but when I'm healing, I usually face away from the mob and just look at the HP bars/chat log. While I do think something should be done about the paralyze filter, I don't feel like making mages stare at the melee on the screen is a way to fix it.

Mages aren't gonna be looking at folks on the front line, they're glued to their chat windows. All that does is make it harder for them to realize you're paralyzed. This is of course assuming that said front line folks aren't immediately spamming party chat asking for Paralyna.

As a WHM, I mainly look at the HP/MP bars and every so often glance at the chat window. I wouldn't use a paralyze filter. I would use it, however, if it would filter out paralyze messages from people not in my alliance... Can we get that instead?

what Shenul is asking for is what the original thread was about. When other players that have nothing to d with you are paralyzed interupted or whatever and we see it in the chat log. For some reason some people are takin this as filter paralyze of everything!

Have you ever fought a abby nm next to another group fightin the same NM and you see messages from both your fight and the fight of the other party? Such as when you would see the other party procing messages and you happened to be moving away from your NM and the NM wasnt on screen so you werent sure it was your NM or theirs? I mean thank god they fixed that right? this is basically the same thing just with paralyzed and interupted and oh hey those 50 people who tried to use a instant warp scroll in Port Jueno but moved at the last second and it failed to take effect.

But believe me i understand where you are comin from on thinkin this would make bad whms. But seriously if you are a whm; why would you filter it for your own party if in fact they made paralyze filters for yourself, party, alliance, and others. Why are there whms still missin key spells or blms for that matter. "o i dont have warp, ive only been a blm for 5 years. just couldnt be bothered to do the quest farm gil."

This seems so pointless. If mages have it filtered, they're sucky mages. And no one even asked to filter it for your party/alliance, only for people outside of it.

And guess what? This, on the other hand, I do have filtered. I have the damage numbers and miss popups filtered and almost everyone I know has it too, because it's too cluttered on the screen in big fights and just messes up the visuals (and wouldn't be able to recognize it anyway). Also, who looks at the characters while fighting? Mages need to monitor the HP/MP bars as well as the chatlog to notice other status ailments. This would actually make it harder for all mages. A chatlog filter would only make it hard for stupid mages, because there's absolutely no reason to filter it for your party. If they do that, they deserve to have a bad reputation and not be invited to anything.

Not to mention, the paralyze messages are completely out of sync with the rest of the status messages, because they process every time a user performs an action. Even if a mage would have it filtered, they would still see you get paralyzed (it wouldn't filter the "X is paralyzed." message). Paralyze is the complete exception in that it reminds you constantly that a player is paralyzed. Imagine that would be the same for every other status ailment and the chatlog (or the screen, as you're suggesting it) would get flooded with "X is silenced.", "X is cursed.", "X has amnesia.", "X has Defense Down.", etc. It would be completely ridiculous.

Also, if you think a paralyze-filter would make a bad mage, are you saying we should remove the effect filters as well, because mages could have them on and wouldn't see people get silenced, slowed, paralyzed, etc.? Because apparently it has worked quite well for nearly a decade. As would a paralyze filter. Unlike your suggestion, which wouldn't do anything for many players, or would force players to turn this stupid feature on and focus on a third location on the screen constantly just to see the paralyze popups.
