The post says to use the dev1091 tag for the topic that's identified as dev1090. dev1091 is the smn update.

Second, the listed info seems to be incorrect, or at least different from the original JP post.

    Japanese version:

    Which (Google) translates to:
    Items 1,4 and 5 match.

Item 2 looks like it was transposed to item 3.

Item 3 looks partly like it was transposed to item 2, but....curse /bane /doom = death (doom)/curse/curse...except transposed and Google inserted curse twice. Google error?

I know we have both the names death and doom in the game, but not sure how Google handles that from Japanese.

I totally respect your posts every time (no joke), but I'm confused. Certainly worth the question, but Google is not perfect. (I wish it was...love to see the real Japanese posts converted sooner rather than later.)

I poked at it with Rikaichan to get a better idea. Mostly because I was curious if there were Japanese characters for "penalty of death (not specifically by strangulation or beheading)" but it provided more clarity in general.

Item 2 has two forms of Curse. I have no idea how the two are different. They're both "curse" and then some other stuff that makes no sense at all in any FFXI context. They seem to be synonyms for the noun form of curse as far as anything other a human being who knows both languages can tell you. The other is basically "Sentenced to die (possibly by strangulation or beheading if you want to be super-autistic)". I assume "Doom" is called "Death Sentence" in the Japanese version.

Item 3 has one word for generic illness or sickness, and one word for more intense stuff like epidemics.

I am very confident that the two items were just switched in translation somehow. I am also sad that I still don't know if there is a character for "penalty of death (by snoo-snoo or weasels)".

Well wiki says Bane is an upgraded form of curse...similar except it lasts longer. That might explain how Google got curse 2 times.

Doom and death also might be very similar in Japanese.

The transposition of lines 2 and 3 is remarkable however.

I noted it as a Google translate because it was just a quick copy/paste rather than my own translation. Wanted to note why the wording was a bit awkward. The info in the English post is still wrong, though.

    Greetings!

Thanks for bringing this to our attention!

The below shows the proper ordering (and I have updated Gildrein's post).

    Post-adjustment:
    1. Paralysis
    2. Curse/Bane/Doom
    3. Disease/Plague
    4. Blindness
    5. Poison

    Apologies for the confusion!
