The filter system (and possibly the chatlog system itself) need some tweaking. Currently there's unfilterable messages, which means the classification of chat messages is off (the paralyze one should be in the "action effect" category imo, as should be the defeat message, both of which are unfilterable at the moment). Personally I'd like to rework the log to allow for easier/better parsing, but I don't think that's high on the development team's list of concerns.

I would love for there to be separate filters for if other people in your alliance have hate on the monster and a monster that has nothing to do with you alliance.

Currently as it stands the monster filter only applies to the monster if your party is the one with hate. So if you are in a voidwatch alliance for example and supposed to be stunning you have to make sure that filter is off in order to see the moves that you are supposed to stun. On the other hand when you go into abyssea and are killing a NM you can see the moves that monsters that other parties are fighting. (Once again causing more death and possible problems cause of confusing messages.) On a similar note this also applies if hate is on the pets of someone in your current party as my linkshell recently found out in the middle of a fight where the rdm could suddenly no longer see which moves to stun.

I don't know how hard the coding would be but i would personally be happier if monster affects simply applied to the monster that anyone in your alliance was killing instead of only applying if someone in your party as has hate.

I kinda of also wish that there was a way to filter "you are too far away to gain experience." This has always annoyed me gettging to camps and such where I know I am no where near my party but every minute or two that message comes up. If I can get exp I can hear battle music and if i don't hear music I won't get exp. i would at least like the option to filter it out.

o wow i had no idea system level 3 (countdowns) filtered various things including randoms. never would have guessed that lol. especially when it says countdowns. i figured that was jsut loggin out and shutting down stuffs. I would greatly appreciate the random filter on its own tho! i dont mind seein check or bazaar messages at all and its a shame having to filter all that to filter randoms via this newly gained info (to me anyways).

but dont forget the interuption messages and the this item fails to activate i see 100s of everytime i come back from afk.

EDIT: wow the above post hit the basic same issue im talkin about below, crazy we wrote that about the same time and i didnt see his/her post til after i posted mine lol.

Also regarding quirky things in the chat log anyone ever noticed things like when you fight minax bugard. many times me and my fellow blms who are supposed to stun tyrant tusk. but we are always not in the tank party. and since the tank has the most hate (this means his party is the claiming party at the moment even tho your second party in the ally can also attack the monster you notice the color of the name is a slightly different red/pink/purple whatever color u want to call it) his party will see the tyrant tusk message for readying it. where as we in the not tank party dont get the message at all, i think because our party doesnt have the main claim on the monster. i have been in the main tank party before and i see the ready message for it everytime. Yet no matter what party im in i always see everyother readying message for minax bugard. I have noticed this kind of thing here and there when fightin various nms for various moves.

and also maybe my memories is bad or its just the crack i smoked this mornin but i seem to remember back in the day i could set the color of the text of my dmg to monsters as its own color. then one day that color also was for dmg done to my party mates as well as the dmg they do. And i could n longer easily pick out the dmg i was doing to the mob mixed in with my party mates dmg (taken and dealt) and it was about this time i had to start filtering party members dmg altogether.

also provoke used to be action taken on the mob which was great. but one day it became action effects which now meant i could not see the tank provoking without also seein a bard's song effect on every party member giving me much lag.

am i the only one that remembers it being that way long ago (which was much better)?

Am I the only one in this thread that thinks a paralyze filter is a counter-productive idea? God forbid people get random WHMs that won't give paralyna because they have their paralyze filters set.

Something better would be a "Paralyzed!" graphical text that pops up on characters, akin to that of "Miss!" when a character/mob misses a swing. That would be a more effective addition if people were so concerned about chat log space.

What if a WHM filters effects on party members and never notices them getting debuffed? Same issue. I wouldn't ever activate it for me or my party/alliance, but for people outside of the party/alliance.

That's why I'm abolishing the idea of a paralyze filter altogether, really. A graphic text would be more beneficial over using a filter, because then at least they would have to see someone being paralyzed in the chat log.

It's more opportunities over restricting them.

Bad White Mages will be bad regardless of the excuses. But if you really have a White Mage who has a hard time seeing the status debuffs (particularly the ones that don't show in the log very well because the TP move doesn't say anything) you should either have voice communication or macro a warning ("|Paralyzed|").

Good idea. I also suggest having any filter for Paralyze have a hold option, although this seems harder to implement.

I don't think this is an either/or. Also, once again don't blame bad healers on SE adding a filter.

If you say so, personally I'd prefer to leave the option to be a bad WHM up to the player. If they wanna filter that out, good for them.

The optimum way to handle character afflictions/debuffs (and buffs as well) would be to have them show as icons in the party/alliance list, then they could all be filtered....but not holding my breath for that to be added anytime soon.

wouldn't really work for the party you're in, as the chat log next to your party box would make things look cluttered. Then again you can always adjust the width of the chat log anyways...but I would imagine it would look cluttered more than anything.
