5312 happens after i log into playonline and POL 1158 happens when i try to update, really want to get back into FF but dont know how to fix.
I was looking up things to do, came across a thread saying to download from the site directly rather then using steam, did that now im getting Error Code: POL 1160 after I try to log into Playonline.
Fixed it myself.
How did you manage to fix it yourself? I've been at it for about 12 hours now and called in for support they couldnt even tell me how to, We don't know whats happening or why you can't log in to your account" is what i am getting. but i am now fustrated, Regreting buying this from steam! I should've just kept the other one i had which was non-steam instead of reinstalling with steam which i so hate myself on doing so thinking it was a good move![]()
so please please replythank you very much

When using FINAL FANTASY XI via Steam, one should install everything related via Steam, and only Steam.
So uninstall everything related to the game, even the PlayOnline Viewer (I would move or rename the old FINAL FANTASY XI folder(s) if you have done major updating on them as you might be able to skip updating by replacing the newly installed files with the updated ones), then do a clean install via Steam, or which ever medium you wish to use.
That being said, you can use any other medium just as well, and register any expansion packs or/and add-ons to your account with the registration code from Steam.
You do not have to install via Steam to use the registration codes from Steam.
(In case it has been, or will be changed at any time in the future, I will say that it used to be like so.)
Personally I would not recommend using Steam at all, if possible, for various reasons.
But that's another story, really. ^^;
For now, I think that is all I have for you.
Obviously it is not an official response, so take it for what it is.
If you still do experience problems, please include what you have tried so far to let us better narrow down our suggestions.
Good luck!

Installed the game today, then after few hours i managed to transfer it to a new SE account. Activated it and hoped i would get to start patch it and play tomorrow! but nope! Now when i try login i get POL-5312 ID/password incorrect bla bla.
Sent support email to SE, but i read they couldnt help you? well that sucks.just hope i dident pay this sub for nothing.
Unless the servers are still unavailable for maintaince?

moerk,
Make sure you are using the correct password(s) when logging in with PlayOnline viewer.
After you have transferred your POL account to your SqEX account, you will need to set the POL Member Name and Password into the log-in setting for your Member Information there, as well as your Square Enix ID and One-Time Password, if necessary.
Now, after that, you log in by using your SQUARE ENIX Account password, not the PlayOnline one.
Even if this is not the reason for your issue, it definitely should not give you that error message if the servers are just off-line, as you can normally log in, just not enter the game during a maintenance unless it requires the PlayOnline service to be off-line as well. Even so, there should be a different error message displayed.
And no, the maintenance today only took the estimated time and I was on-line around your posting time, I think.

Thanks for answer. ok so when i start up playonline > settings > i enter a suiting member name of choise > playonline ID 4x Capital letters with 4x numerics] > playonline password [same as when i login to web account management page]
Doing this did atleast not give me the error, but only saying wrong ID or PW. Yes i'm suprisingly decent with computers and things like this. But this takes the price.
ok, brainfart by me. got it, finally
You're not the first (nor the last) one to stumble with that part.
It's easily confusing due to the way it all is set up, and they really do seem to excel at making things like that.
Glad you got it sorted. \ö/
