I agree with you Zarchery. I think so long as you're useful in a party then does your gear matter THAT much - I think player skill comes into it and of course having a gear set that's beneficial. Focusing on getting the perfect gear-set is a massive time sink that not everybody is willing to make. It's not laziness, it's about not wasting hours of time you could be doing more constructive things like tidying up the house, doing the washing, going to the pub, playing another game, going to the cinema, doing sports, eating pie, stealing old ladies' handbags and so on.

Nothing wrong with being more full time than other players too and getting the more leet gear, if it's what you wanna do with your time and how you want to play the game. Some are actually quite content in the moderate gear killing the same NM's as guys in the best gear. I don't believe in any of this elitism crap. I can't say I've ever failed to do my part in a group because my gear wasn't Teh Bestest.

I have attempted to come up with a thought out, reasonable response for you.

On that note, I've always thought they should make "gimp" WoE versions of the shield and harp.

I could see a WoEchain that doesn't block as often or for as much, but you can't really make half a song slot with a WoE harp, so it might need to be something else entirely like a generous duration boost.

As for the BB items, well, the fights aren't hard, but sadly, the fight is more against the random number generation with a low rate from the BC, poor King pop item rate from NQs, and then the Kings not being 100% anymore. Even if it was a quest like "Kill 2000 mobs of the Adamantoise family" and the like, I think some would welcome the alternative. Or the items be absurdly low drops from Hadyosh, Lacovie, and... er, Smok, I guess.

Yeah, that's a thought I've had before too. Let the BB items be random drops off the Abyssea counterparts to the old HNMs. I don't see what would be so terrible about that.

I own a Black Belt which I got during the rule of the ground kings. Maybe I'm the only BB owner who thinks this way, but it isn't going to bother me in the least to see it made more readily available. Why would it? Mine still works just fine. /shrug

I have one on one character from before king change and one from after. The new king method is lame. That said, best way to do it if you can't sapam the NMs yourself is to go farm gil, and buy then buy the items from a group who is after the kings for the gear. Turtle is only shitty one, because there aren't many people after anything but the egg from him.

If you shout for the items, you will generally find them in a matter of minutes.

Well I do have decent gear for MNK, but it's nothing I would make so much effort that it impedes my enjoyment of the game and life. Currently have complete Tantra +2 set, Brown Belt, Rajas Ring, Spiral Ring, Afflictors, Atheling Mantle, Calcitrant Stole, Moonshade Earring with Accuracy +3 and Counter+2, and either Brutal Earring or Aesir Ear Pendant (I can't make up my mind). I do okay, I have fun, and if there are people out there who want to make fun of me so be it. I don't play to impress people, I do it to have fun. One day I'll quit this game and my gear won't matter any more.
