Current situation with the game isn't the best, people are bored with the new endgame content which is seen as either not worth doing at all (WoE) or brutal on the playerbase in terms of kill X monster 100-200 times till you get drop then do next, repeat (VW). Quite a lot of people are capped in Aby and the new content they were waiting for as 99 endgame is...underwhelming. All there appears to be to look forward is reworks to all the stuff we did at 75 for years and one other endgame event we know almost nothing about. That's not very exciting at all.
I know Square have a company policy to keep secrets as long as possible and suprise us close to the time with new stuff, is this the best approach though? I would much prefer regular teasers of new content coming out/dev sketches/teasers of the new expansion (I'm assuming there will be one based on a hint from the last interview) I really think FFXI needs to do away with the secrets approach and put out more content teasers ahead of time, silence isnt really the best option right now imo.
The feeling is that FFXIV is stealing the majority of our dev team and budget, showing us whats being worked on in/planned new content would help. This of course assuming there is anything aside from what we already know about that is being worked on/planned for inclusion into FFXI at this time.
