lots of people never had as much issue with the old payment systems but since click and buy was implemented i have known not just myself but many other friends having lots of issues with it including extra money taken out of accounts etc...

so i did some reading on them and with their F class rating on the better business bureau and so many horrid reviews from so many users I can not even phathom how a company like SE could even put their name on a product that bad ... yes i know how good ffxi has become but the whole name in general of the company on a product so horrid!!

just one of the many many sights out there where people slam click and buy for various reasons.... you would think se had the time to investigate a company before jumping over to it.

Paypal is pretty much just as bad if not worse.

Note: I'm not advocating C&B. I hate them. But really, both options suck right now.

I've never had any problems paypal in any payment venue, including FFXI. Is paypal to americans what C&B is to EU? As in, dose paypal screw nonamericans for using it's services?

Paypal being terrible hardly has anything to do with what country you're from. If you haven't had any issues with Paypal, then you probably aren't using it to move around enough money for them to care about ripping you off. Straight up.

Paypal will randomly lock down accounts whenever the hell it feels like it so that they can hold onto your money for months at a time. They don't just process your money. When you have an account balance with paypal, they act like a "Bank that's not a bank", spending your money on investments in order to turn a profit for itself. Unfortunately, because Paypal is not technically a "Bank", it's not subject to normal banking regulation, and can basically do whatever the hell it wants and just lock you out of your account for six months if they spent your money and haven't gotten it back yet.

Paypal is extremely dirty. The only reason the average consumer doesn't notice this is because the average consumer doesn't keep a Paypal balance worth screwing with.

If you don't like click and buy, don't use it.

A lot of those reviews are old and the company has changed in some ways, including they now have a presence in the US. That doesn't mean their customer service is suddenly great, but i know plenty of people who have used it without any issues.

That doesn't mean people haven't had problems with it either- I know some that have. Again, if you don't feel good about it, don't use it. There are other payment options available for a reason. Use the one that you're most comfortable with.

Never have an account balance with PayPal, and they will never give you any trouble. Plain and simple. Only use it to make payments.

Paypal is hardly as bad as some people make it out to be. It is true, they have at times abused their strangely unique position of being able to hold people's money whilst not being called a "bank", and even claim to allow people to earn a return on a balance (which makes them a bank in virtually every way except for giving out loans), however, as you pointed out, the average person is neither a threat to their security nor a person worth hassling. They don't seem to give large companies any trouble either, which I suppose is why nobody has any problem using it to make payments like we can to SE.

If you're a fan of paypalsucks.com and you hate clickandbuy, there is still game cards and credit cards through playspan (which is now a division of VISA) and sometime (hopefully) soon, more credit card options- They are supposed to have this in place by the time FFXIV commences billing, which is in early January, so they're running out of time to get that done.

Oh, I certainly don't have an account balance on Paypal. That doesn't mean they're not dirty. Some people are in positions where they have to use it for business or other transactions that necessitate having a balance.

I wasn't saying that using paypal for crysta payments would result in people getting hacked or screwed, but neither would C&B most likely. I was just making the point that their track record is just as bad if not worse than C&B's.
