Current Quest Counter: 2109!
Please please no more Abyssea SE, lets us see the unexplored parts of Vana'Del once & for all...stop teasing us with items from those places!
I've been saying to SE in my thread that they need to remove
the ps2 support, give it-it's own server even or perhaps use
other "discontinuation of service" ideas.
No ones responded yet.. ps2 will be the death of our beloved game.. rise up or we
shall all fall with it!

That proves nothing! And furthermore, you'd think I could remember a thing like that!
Plus, who are you anyway?
i used to play on PS2 only, after getting new pc i got game on it and omg so much better, really need to transfer FFXI from PS2 to PS3, either direct download via PSN or some other method since most PS3's now down read PS2 discs (terrible idea Sony), i would LOVE to see the far East and northlands, and esp love new jobs but i doubt they'll add it, one can dream though
I think the history of FFXI's expansions is indicative enough of why we should stay away from them. When a new expansion is released it generally costs about 30 USD. This expansion has a handful of new systems, new jobs, areas and items to experience. That seems awesome and all but many of the meaningful adjustments and content aren't added for another 6 to 12 months after the initial release. That's a really long time and can end up costing the player a ton of money. Another important part to consider is the player's response to particular content. From what I can see nearly all of FFXI feedback is open ended(and why I cannot even begin to imagine) so it may be harder to gauge whether or not an expansion was a success to the player.
You know the adage "vote with your dollar"? Modular micro transaction content like the add-ons provides you with a better opportunity to do that. If for whatever reason abysea didn't turn out as well as it did there probably would have been a steep decline in sales from visions to heroes and you the player would have spent far less. The decline in sales over a shorter period of time would be more noticeable and attributed to quality rather than a decline in user base.
With any luck we will actually see more revisions to older content and more micro transaction or modular add-ons. We also need to have more aggressive surveys and polling instead of "tell us how you feel" and "talk amongst yourselves" with respect to updates and content.
