    Background Resolution!?

    I'm editing this to get to the crux of the problem.

    For some reason I can only choose "square" resolutions for both Background Resolution and Menu Resolution (as in 1024x1024 or 2047x2048). My overlay resolution however is widescreen.

    If I try and choose the new Menu Resolution option to try and make the menus bigger, they go all weird shaped. Most people I talk to say that config only gives them the "square" options too, but firstly this means the Menu Resolution option isn't useful, and secondly in the patch notes I can see widescreen resolutions for Background and Menu Resolution.

    keep scrolling down. After the square resolutions, it should start listing 4:3 and 16:9 settings.

    Unfortunately it doesn't. Only the square resolutions for me. Anyone know why this is?

    hmm.. that is odd...perhaps your config tool didn't get properly updated? Check what version it says when you go to it's about link (click the icon in the upper left, on the title bar just left of "FINAL FANTASY XI Config" and click the about link at the bottom). Mine is reporting v1.7.

    Mine is reporting 1.7 as well, and I know it updated as it gives me the option to change Menu Resolution, which is new, and unfortunately stuck with the same Square Resolutions.

    I've done some research and it seems this was normal a few years ago at least. It could be something to do with my graphics card, but I'd need a tech expert to say for sure, or tell me how to resolve this.

    you can always edit the registry keys directly. 0037/0038 are for the menu resolution.

    As much as I appreciate the find on the registry key edit... It is something that we should never have had to do in the first place.

    Macros were fine for 9 years... Players wanted longer command lines and more command lines per macro, not to be able to post emotes to themselves.
