    Edit: fixed number of drops.

Also, does anyone know what Fenrite, Shivite, and Ramuite are for?

Edit 2: It appears on BG someone needed 15 Carbites for their Curing staff. So, it looks like these are like geodes.
Drop rate is straight-up Low. No real way around this. I got my items from DCs in Dangruf, for whatever that's worth, but it took a while.

Shellmates of mine are 0/3 without having yet used a tail; we'll be going again tonight. They are NOT in good gear by any means (PLD has an 85 Almace; most of the rest is a mix of a few +2 AF3, mostly +1s, and some APT) and went with a mishmash of semi-optimal jobs (RDM and SCH healing), but only wiped once. They timed out twice due to low damage; they forgot about/didn't really understand the damage cap and did stuff like have somebody go SAM rather than THF and let a BLU use Heavy Strike (97 damage boyeeee). The SCH did not use TR>Embrava, and I don't think it occurred to them to use enspells. Yeah, they weren't prepared at all. Even with that, their time-outs were at 9% and 1%.

It doesn't really seem that bad, honestly. Use dual-wield jobs for damage whenever possible, focus on multihit WS, and above all pick your jobs and build your strategy around available two-hours. WHM might be a straight-up better healer, but if you've already got one healer in the group and you have the choice between going as WHM and a competent healer with a stronger two-hour like SCH or SMN, the latter's going to be way more useful.

Luckily I have WAR MNK DNC and BST which all fit the Dual Wield/H2H mold and I have SMN for Perfect Defense. Poor SAM sounds kinda left out on this one unless Dual Wielding swords is somehow effective?

But even if certain jobs are ineffective in a fight everyone must do I'm sure that somehow equals BALANCE to the devs. I'm just not as smart as them so I can't see it!

What I'm seeing is people suggesting that if you absolutely must use SAM and can't use a tail (which removes the damage cap and thus makes the hand-wringing irrelevant), Penta Thrust works. Regardless, it would be one thing if leveling were still pulling teeth and everyone and their mother did not have 6-7 jobs at 95, but I think it's fine for particular jobs to shine in a fight that favors two-hours. A naked SCH or SMN isn't going to have quite as strong an Embrava/Perfect Defense as one with best-in-slot gear, but that doesn't mean Embrava/PD aren't by themselves strong enough to make a big, big difference.

I *think* the biggest concern with the tail is that a PLD, Ochain or no, is the only one with a reasonable shot at surviving some of the more unlucky events in this fight, and the damage cap keeps the DDs from ripping hate too easily. When we go tonight, I'm going to recommend we start with the SCH buff routine, then proceed as normal tail-less until the melee has capped hate and the PLD can't tank anymore, at which point we PD (Embrava Regen/Phalanx should cover the damage; I am sure my LS leader, the nicest, most humble and helpful secret-melee-RDM you'll ever meet, will be looking forward to this) and Hundred Fists into his own HF, use a tail, Gravity him, and have everyone unload.

I'll let you know how it goes!

Do you sincerely know someone without a mage job or is able to play a dw job? it's a level cap per character not job, i'm sure by now everyone has a job that's useful in this fight. you want to talk balance, finally a fight where pld is useful.

Are you sure? Of course you're not. You have no idea what everyone has or doesn't have leveled. No one should assume everyone has a certain category of job leveled or presume to tell them that they should level any particular job.

you want to talk balance, finally a fight where pld is useful.

Only in SE's world is that balance. "Oh my favorite job is good here and here and here but it sucks for this and that and the other thing." Balance should not be measured by how many events or fights one's job is useful for. Ironically, even by that standard there's nothing even close to balance in FFXI.

I feel for you on the way PLD has been treated as of late. I've felt the sting of uselessness many times, and I don't want anyone who's working hard and doing all the right things on their favored job to ever have to feel that way. When we get as close to that point as humanly possible, then we have balance.

No one is saying that anyone should have a particular job leveled. What we are saying is that out of the half-dozen jobs most people have leveled in the full year since Dominion Ops came out, odds are good that at least one of them will be one of the dozen jobs that are particularly well-suited to this fight.

We are not even suggesting that you need to be on one of those jobs to finish it. If anything, I'd have thought my post outing my linkshell as having gone in woefully unprepared but still getting really close to winning the hard mode would have made that clear.

What we ARE saying is that the damage cap puts jobs that rely on big hits like two-handers, RNG, and BLM at a major disadvantage in this fight if you don't use a tail. Not for nothing, if you DO use a tail RNG and BLM suddenly become the best DDs available, so really all we're saying is you probably shouldn't show up as DRK, DRG, or SAM if you can help it.

Well, my comments were really directed at SE and their sycophants. Sorry if my aim was off.

The damage cap is great, actually. Rendering Emp WSes and ODD procs pointless was pretty much the only way to ensure the fight would be challenging for everyone without being totally impossible for many.

Drop rate isn't really too too awful. But maybe that was because I had Treasure Hunter most of the time?

Both times we lost because of time out. First time we had about 5% HP left to go, second time about 20%. If we had had just a few more minutes we would have been golden, haha.

I agree with your strategy. -nod- I wish I had Alexander for my summoner. Maybe I should get that first before I try the limit break again.

We had 12 people killing skeles in Labyrinth of Onzozo and they were dropping ~every 3rd mob. We had 3 TH6 THFs though, so even the adds were guaranteed someone to tag it.
