    Audio Mute - Request

Maybe this is in the game already somewhere. If so, somebody please enlighten me.

Normally, I like to have the game audio on while I play as it adds to the overall environment. However, I'd love to have a quick access mute function to quickly turn off all the game audio for those times when I want to listen to something else on my PC. The only way I know of doing this in the game now is to go through the config menu and turn down sound effects and music independently, which is annoyingly slow. How about /mute to toggle sound on and off?

If you use windows 7 then right click your audio speaker by the clock and click "Open Volume Mixer"

Then when it is open right click the Volume Mixer icon down at the bottom of your screen where all the program icons are and pin to toolbar.

Now whenever you want to mute FFXI just click that and click the icon in the volume mixer to instantly mute it!

As above- this functionality is a part of modern versions of windows.

He's saying mute the FFXI audio without muting the entire PC. Reading comprehension!

It won't mute all of the programs.

But, it'd be nice for PS2, XBox360, and players not on Windows 7.

I'm sorry but Kalilla's directions will indeed mute all of your programs completely.

Just opened up volume mixer, muted FFXI, and I can still hear my CD in Media.

Tagrineth, if you're going to throw around "reading comprehension" I would suggest you learn a little more about computers before doing so.

Windows 7's built in Volume Mixer (the directions I just told you...) has the power to mute specific programs, even JUST FFXI. It will NOT mute your entire system.

By clicking the program's speaker icon in Volume Mixer it is marked with a sign which mutes the program.

And Meyi you are correct, so that would be a nice request now that you mention that.

Eh... whatever. That's still a very ghetto method to do it, and exclusive to Win7

Reading comprehension! We didn't say mute the whole PC! We said mute the individual application, which is possible from the windows audio mixer!

Please make sure you fully understand what is being discussed before calling other people stupid (effectually).

Yes, its exclusive to an operating system you should be running. Skipping Vista was understandable, but XP will eventually (is already?) not be supported by MS anymore. This isn't a "ghetto method,' either. It's easy an convenient, and often used to silence applications like your web browser which often don't have volume controls of their own at all.

(Side note; if using "unofficial windower", it will silence the game while it is minimized, which is even simpler than finding an ingame mute checkbox)
