    Update "Stops" at 15.dat

It's trying to download 15.dat, goes through "download version update" and "file check" just fine.

Once it gets to the download part, it gives me:

    Error code:POL-1160
Network is busy or there are connection problems, etc.

    D:ROM/21/15.DAT

Mine randomly stopped loading at .17DAT but I just cancelled the update went back into it and it had taken off all of the files I had already downloaded and left those left so I'm back updating again from that point.

Also, while typing this I just got passed .15 so it's nothing specific, just server traffic.

Sorry, could you go into more detail of how I could get past this?

    Cancel the update, got that.
Go back into what? Do what with what files?

    You were correct.

After about 10 tries, I got it to start downloading again. Server must be strained. I keep getting this image of a really old Tarutaru trying to hand out files to thousands of players.

Lol. Sorry I did not make that clear. Just whatever screen it takes you to, go back as if you were trying to play the game and attempt to get the update again.

As a LONG time player I can say it is the server congestion and bottle necking. Obviously the server at hand, regardless of which, is not capable of the magnitude of players downloading at one particular time. I have gotten stuck at both spots and others. I have a pretty fast Internet speed and a very clean system just to rule out any such implications. There is always such implications told though MANY complain of this issue each time there is a major update. This, and others are roughly 15 minute downloads at the most on a low speed DSL connection referencing the file size and pondering upon the case of minimal amounts of people downloading at one particular time. I agree with the frustration, as I am with similar feelings residing. I think it's a shame that after 9 years, no resolution has been sought or, giving the benefit of the doubt, found. What is truly troubling is the fact that we are paying customers and, we pay for such updates that take 2-8 hours without distraction of disconnect.
Though I use this sight and, many others for this game, I normally do not post. In saying that, I thought to vent the facts and hopefully prevent unnecessary diagnosis of your machines and connections. I can absolutely confirm, if we had the patients to wait a day or two, the upgrade would zip through without disruption but, let's face it, we paid our monthly fee and we want to play now just as the many others are able to who for some reason seem to have downloading priority above us in this thread and numerous others each update... Good luck to you all and enjoy once you do get on... ^.^

    Rorrey,

What has been provided already in this thread is correct, in part. The release of an update does cause a bit of a scramble, as it were, with everyone trying to download the update at once, straining the servers and causing some people to disconnect. However, there are general connection troubleshooting tips that you can follow, to ensure that there’s nothing else interfering with the download.

    Suggestions:
    1. Check to make sure you have properly configured or turned off any of the following: Routers, Proxy Servers, NAT Servers, Internet Connection Sharing services.
    2. If you are using any kind of software/hardware Internet Sharing service/device the following ports need INCOMING access to your PC: TCP 1024 - 65535, UDP 53, and 50000 - 65535. Also, check to make sure that the ports mentioned are not blocked by your ISP for INCOMING access. Proper configuration of any of the above items mentioned should be done by following the instructions in the software/hardware manual or calling the manufacturer's technical support.
    3. If you are using a router, and have configured that router for port forwarding, temporarily bypass that router and connect directly to the modem.

Please take note of the following:
    • Proxy servers, and satellite connections are not supported and do not work correctly with FINAL FANTASY XI.
    • Your router may require that you use a PC to configure your network settings. For more information about how to configure your network settings, please refer to the instruction manual that came with your router or contact the manufacturer directly.
    • If your Internet Service Provider (ISP) specifies a DNS server, you need to make sure to configure your settings to allow packets to pass through UDP Port 53 as well. For more information, please refer to the instruction manual for your router or the information provided by your ISP.
