(re-posted this with correct title)
Okay, I'm a hoarder. I'll admit it. I'm sure I'm not alone in saying this. I've obtained around 100 seals that I don't need from +1'ing AF3 for 3 jobs and I just cannot bring myself to /toss them in case they can be used for something else at a later date.
So I've been thinking of ways to use my 6 Orison Head seals that don't involve me getting more, upgrading the head piece and storing with the Moogle, only for me to never-ever level WHM beyond 49.
I'm sure we can all agree that taking the EX factor away from them would spoil the whole process. People would just trade, buy and sell them, never step foot in Abyssea and essentially skip the whole 'playing' part of the game.
Making them NPC'able wouldn't really be that adventurous as they'd probably just sell for 1k or something. Sure, it'd be an alternative to /tossing them all, but not much of one.
So, here's my proposal for a future update.
"Hoardmaster Magpix" - A Goblin NPC that you can visit once per RL day (24 hours, triggers at JP midnight) that spends his time wandering around Abyssea to observe the war, aid survivors and hunting for interesting looking nik-naks. If you trade him an unwanted AF3 seal, he will reluctantly give you a random seal in return (after stating he has a bunch of those anyway) for that area of equipment and then vanish.
For Example:
-You wait till JP midnight so the goblin can "return from his travels"
-You trade him 1x "Mavi Seal: Hands"
-He gives you a random 'Hand Seal' of any job (except BLU) in return
-The goblin tells you he's going out again and to come visit him tomorrow
-You wait till JP midnight to repeat the process (if needed)
Owning a seal to trade to the NPC shows that the player has made some effort to obtain the AF3 upgrades and although this method would reduce time/number or quests to complete an AF3+1 piece, it would not alter it to the point or making it Easy Prey as the seals traded to you would be random. You may have to trade that seal in the following day until you get one you'd like to keep.
Obviously it's the mechanics of trading your seals in I'm mainly trying to get across, the Goblin aspect could be altered for another NPC type or something. I just thought I'd add a little colour to my idea.
Anyway, that's something I've been thinking about since I got my first unwanted seal, nearly /tossed it and decided to save it for later only to realise my storage was completely full of them now.
Writing this gave me something to do for the first hour of "Power Saving FFXI Mode", it hopefully gave you something interesting to read.
Take care,
