[dev1003] Suggestion For Unwanted AF3 Seals

    (re-posted this with correct title)

Okay, I'm a hoarder. I'll admit it. I'm sure I'm not alone in saying this. I've obtained around 100 seals that I don't need from +1'ing AF3 for 3 jobs and I just cannot bring myself to /toss them in case they can be used for something else at a later date.

So I've been thinking of ways to use my 6 Orison Head seals that don't involve me getting more, upgrading the head piece and storing with the Moogle, only for me to never-ever level WHM beyond 49.

I'm sure we can all agree that taking the EX factor away from them would spoil the whole process. People would just trade, buy and sell them, never step foot in Abyssea and essentially skip the whole 'playing' part of the game.

Making them NPC'able wouldn't really be that adventurous as they'd probably just sell for 1k or something. Sure, it'd be an alternative to /tossing them all, but not much of one.

So, here's my proposal for a future update.

"Hoardmaster Magpix" - A Goblin NPC that you can visit once per RL day (24 hours, triggers at JP midnight) that spends his time wandering around Abyssea to observe the war, aid survivors and hunting for interesting looking nik-naks. If you trade him an unwanted AF3 seal, he will reluctantly give you a random seal in return (after stating he has a bunch of those anyway) for that area of equipment and then vanish.

    For Example:

-You wait till JP midnight so the goblin can "return from his travels"
-You trade him 1x "Mavi Seal: Hands"
-He gives you a random 'Hand Seal' of any job (except BLU) in return
-The goblin tells you he's going out again and to come visit him tomorrow
-You wait till JP midnight to repeat the process (if needed)

Owning a seal to trade to the NPC shows that the player has made some effort to obtain the AF3 upgrades and although this method would reduce time/number or quests to complete an AF3+1 piece, it would not alter it to the point or making it Easy Prey as the seals traded to you would be random. You may have to trade that seal in the following day until you get one you'd like to keep.

Obviously it's the mechanics of trading your seals in I'm mainly trying to get across, the Goblin aspect could be altered for another NPC type or something. I just thought I'd add a little colour to my idea.

Anyway, that's something I've been thinking about since I got my first unwanted seal, nearly /tossed it and decided to save it for later only to realise my storage was completely full of them now.

Writing this gave me something to do for the first hour of "Power Saving FFXI Mode", it hopefully gave you something interesting to read.

    Take care,

    DMG

Great idea, love it. How would he be situated in the zones? A wandering NPC would be a pain to track down all the time unless he had regular checkpoints in his UI pattern. Maybe it would be easier if he was just placed at the entrance along side the other cruor NPCs and such, but awesome idea non the less.

Sorry, I didn't mean for the NPC to be wandering around a zone. I simply gave the NPC an excuse why you can just stand at his ??? and trade-spam seals all day long. Just give him a ??? / Goblin Footprint-esque target somewhere next to a maw.

I understand people's frustration with not getting the right seals for finishing some stupidly painful run-about quest for the 9999th time, but would also like to see some kind of challenge for upgrading a job's AF3 gear. Like I said, I got about 100 I don't want to /toss. :P

Funny enough, I thought about this with a friend of mine

My idea was a little different thou, the idea i had was that you could trade 2x seals that you don't want for 1x of seal that you do want or another way of keeping the random factor of acquiring seals

This is actually a great idea and people couldn't exploit it because it would have a 24 hr waiting, very much SE like. BUT now let me give it a little player point of view here. We already now how vague these kind of methods are and it would only increase a very small percentage of you getting your seal SO here's what I would add to your new little quest.

Yes there is a goblin that would give you a random seal from a random job BUT as I said that would only help so much so what I would do is give every individual abyssea zone a different goblin with a shared time of all the other gobs in the other zones. Say you're looking for the RDM feet seal, and you know you can find it in abyssea Attohwa so you go to abyssea Attohwa and look for the gob and trade him a seal, since you can find WAR, MNK, WHM, RDM, THF, and BLM seals there he will randomly give you one of those because those are the seals that belong to that abyssea zones not just any seals from any other jobs from any other zones.

Now that little twist would actually make that goblin quest worthwhile.

Yeah, I like that. I didn't want to make it too simple to get the seals you need.

Offering seals for all possible shared quest/job seals would still be pretty harsh for wanted drops and getting random seals for the job you currently are (while trading to the NPC) would be too easy, even if it was ANY seal for that job.

I remember when the seal quests first came out and I got a seal once I changed to the job I was looking for. I was adamant for some time that it was a contributing factor in which seals drop from quests. XD

What about instead of a 24 hour time limit, he charges you a Traverser Stone? That would allow you to semi-easily get what you needed, still slowly but not super quickly. Not cruor so you wouldn't cause more people to go farm for cruor, and it would cause people to balance between using stones for Abyssea and getting their seals.

this added to the initial idea i would really love that. (not 24 hours reuse possible but traverser stones needed)
managing stones and goblins greedy for traverser stones makes it really SE-like.

    +1 for that idea.

Yeah, I guess it sounds good. But you're stripping the challenge aspect from it IMO.

Okay, so time and random chance drops isn't exactly a challenge in as many words, but it's still effort towards working on something. Turning up somewhere, practically selecting your rewards for little effort is not however. Being able to stand next to the NPC and get everything I want in 1 trading session would not be very satisfying for me. Maybe for some people, but not me.

I'm happy playing this game on a variety of levels. I accept that I shouldn't be able to get anything and everything just by hoping real hard and clicking my fingers enough times. Giving away everything with ease isn't generally very SE-like tbh.

    More like that other company.
