When an automaton kills a Goblin Replica with a single spell, without claiming first, the HP/MP recovery effect awarded on defeat is still applied to both master and pet. But when a Goblin Statue is defeated in this same manner, the time extension key item is NOT awarded.

Steps:
1. Configure automaton for maximum magic damage (Loudspeaker I&II, Ice Maker, Scanner, Mana Channeler, Condenser, Optic Fiber.)
2. Equip gear that boosts pet's magic damage(Mirke Wardecors (with pet macc/mab augment), Taipan Fangs +2 (ice/pet mab version), cirque +2 set (except for body))
3. Use the following maneuvers on a safe location: Water > Ice > Ice > Ice
4. Optional: Apply Sneak and Invisible
5. Deploy automaton on Goblin Statue, and have it cast Thunder V.
6. Goblin Statue receives enough damage to put it on 0 HP, THEN it causes all nearby goblins to link (if within sight range) and agro the automaton, THEN it dies without giving up its time extension key item.
This issue is most likely related to http://forum.square-enix.com/ffxi/th...pet-claim-bug., as in both cases the automaton does not claim targets with ranged or magic attacks despite generating enmity on an unagrod and unclaimed enemy.
