The only reason it's down and I don't know this for a fact but I'm pretty sure I'm right, the only reason it's down is because SE neutered POL's ability to do anything anymore and that it won't come back up until they implement the final payment methods and finish forcing people to transfer their accounts. That's just my guess and don't ask me why it would ever keep this service down. It's SE. I gave up trying to figure them out a very long time ago.

Or if it fancies you, you could consider the conspiracy theory that they are trying to get you to play FFXIV instead. It has a V on the end. It's newer and better!

I wonder if this is true about the billing details. Although, I was under the impression they had everyone in some form or fashion transferred already.

I see your point, but it would be nice to at least be told either "It's not coming back, sorry." or "It'll be up eventually." I mean, there has been plenty of time to discuss it's fate after all. Maybe if I keep shamelessly bumping this it'll get a response.. =O

If you did deactivate your account properly (go to contents and deactivate them during a billing cycle) the system will "park" your account and nothing happens. Originally (and this is what is written on the original documentation for this game) contents would be deleted after three months of inactivity. You would be able to use the FFXI code again to reactivate the game but would need to start the character from scratch.

Then sometime in 2004 they changed it to how it is now: You can deactivate and it will be left alone.

Now if you have invalid billing information and SE tried to charge you, you canceled the *whole* account (there was an option for that on the old Service and Support page for POL) then there is an countdown of three months before the account is completely removed.

After the account is deleted and removed from the database it's impossible to log in it through POL Viewer. And that's what this server is meant for.
