Hehe.. that's neither a bug nor random. A perfect sync will occur every 2520 days, and lasts for 4 days. Near perfect syncs(1 rank not matching) will occur far more often, about 1~3 times a year.

If a novice and a veteran need to make an amateur item, it's always the same amateur item for both.

If my Excel model is correct, the guild item system kicked off on Januari 1st, 2002 with the first perfect sync (01-01-02 to 04-01-02). The last near-perfect sync was from 10-11-11 to 13-11-11, the next near-perfect sync will be 08-05-12 to 11-05-12, and the next perfect sync( 3rd one) starts on October 20th, 2015.

The Mayans were wrong... the world (of Vana'diel) will end on October 19th, 2015.
