What's also weird is that FFXI is sold on Steam; Steam advises its users to frequently update their graphics cards for optimum performance when buying games via their network. I can imagine that most Steam users always keep their drivers updated for the latest releases, and there is even an update option for it under the File menu. I would not expect someone to degrade their drivers just to play this game; for some people, they have to update their drivers for compatibility issues with other certain games they might have on Steam. And yet, SE says to us not to update our drivers past a certain point for normal performance in FFXI.

Quite simply, this game needs more support when it comes to drivers.

ATI doesn't care if an 8 year old DirectX 8 game has problems with their latest drivers. It's simply not a priority for them. The real solution here is for SE to update FFXI to DirectX 9 or 10.
