We aren't making up speculations. They apparently are planning or at least considering to port it to the vita. I wasn't the one who made that up.

If they do end up porting it to the Vita I hope they at least backport the Vita client to Windows so that we can use OpenGL and finally dump DirectX 8.
And yes, it probably would improve performance. DirectX 8's fixed function pixel and vertex shaders were not as powerful and flexible as the PS2's vector units. They probably couldn't duplicate everything that the PS2's VUs were doing in hardware in DirectX 8 and some things probably had to be rewritten in software. (although FFXI apparently does use pixel and vertex shaders for some things) With programmable shaders in OpenGL this would no longer be a problem.
