Im going to change it up a bit...

I rarely try to post on these forums because of the sheer negative spat that comes from peoples mouths and the simple fact that I think people troll the forums more than they actually play the game anymore. I do, however, want to put in my two cents now.

Over the years, Final Fantasy XI has evolved into something that has made it a fantastic game. The story lines for mission and full expansions are far superior to any other MMO I have ever played and the sheer difficulty of the game when first released (NA release) is what kept me around.

I just wanted to thank the devs and everyone associated with the upkeep of FFXI for keeping it as an exilarating game as possible. It is not easy to always come up with new content for 10 straight years, yet they always have.

The thing that sickens me is the fact that people always complain when they feel something is inadequate. The one that is laughable is the fact that people see Voidwatch as a copout in terms of actually doing a VWNM and its loot process.

I think peoples quam with Voidwatch is that they are now used to being so causal in getting everything (including their 3+ empyrion weapons) that something has actually come out where it takes coordinaton and they are like "OMGZ THIS IS SOOO BAD". I dont think VW is bad, I think it actually takes coordination amongst job selection but actually deciding whether a mob should die, or continue capping procs.

Also dont cry about the loot. Do you remember how many Fafnir's it took to get a Ridill or how many King Behemoth's you had to endure to get a Defender's Ring? Guess what, you could only do those minimum once a day (in the case of KB once every 3-8 days) and the odds of you getting loot was much worse.

Over the years the developers have buckled to those who want a more casual relationship with the game and not make it necessary to camp a HNM at 230am because you wanted to a certain piece of gear. This is good for some people and others despise it, but hey its the direction the game has taken.

My last thought is if you hate the game enough to complain about every little thing that happens, just cancel your account. No one is forcing you to pay to play a game.

Thank you so much everyone associated with FFXI. Thank you for keeping me entertained for the past 9+ years.

(I look forward to the trolling)

When I clicked on this post, I actually expected it to be another 'goodbye I quit, FFXI sux!' thread. I was pleasantly surprised. I agree with all that you've said, and I actually like voidwatch. It's also not exactly hard to find people to do voidwatch, since almost everyone has more than 5 90+ jobs now, the chances are that you can just greab 18 people then work out what jobs they should all be. Really just need a good tank or 2 and a load of proc jobs.

I agree with you 100%. Some things are cups of tea that you like, other times you shouldn't try to change whats in the teacup to suit you, just find a new type of tea.

I'm Actually planning on doing some more fafnir, because IMO the drops are still pretty good. Void Watch could be better, and I'm sure they will add more to it eventually, for now I am not that interested. FYI some people complain on official forums because they are passionate about the game, and really want it to be better. Not all of us are whiny little boofaces (pun intended) who should just quit the game.

Due to being cool on the internet I should continue shoveling out money to pay for my frustration just to say I 'stuck with the game' and 'have been playing for 10 years' or something? That sounds idiotic, thanks for making my point.

Some things are dumb and frustrating for no reason though. Pretty much everything outside of abyssea before the lifted level cap on cop.

I'm with you Sevvy. I've only been playing since 2008 but the things I hear from playing for like 5-6+ years and even from my own experience when I joined, everything was rewarding for how challenging it was, even if it was dumb and frustrating. But a lot of those things no longer carry the weight that it use to. 76+ and abyssea has literally spoiled everyone... EVERYONE. If you actually want something, you generally can get it in a matter of hours, if not days. Leveling, new equipment (both drops and AF3), even emp weapons. For those who are even remotely invested in this stuff, it flows like water.

WoE and Voidwatch is breaking the trend, in which you actually invest a gripping amount of time to defeat and obtain items of worth, similar to things expansions before level cap increase and restrictions removed from some areas. It's meant to keep you engaged. It's not perfect a perfect system, but it doing what it's suppose too. How long will anyone stay if they got what they wanted in a few weeks or even hours of doing something before they complain about how bored they are and leave because they "have nothing to do" between updates?

If they had a put out a proper expansion with brand new zones with a real story line and missions we might not get bored after burning though gear content. There is no distraction from gear guess what thats what we end up burning. But being bored wait till the next update is nothing new, look at WoTG. That was a full expansion that they took 3 years to finish. Didn't even add that much for how long it took. Doing that did far more damage to the game then abyssea. When it took a couple of days and the content released for that update was done and people were right back at were they were.

Low drop rates is just a way to extend content so they don't have to produce more content. Back in the good old days they did this on top of forced wait times. I don't really care anymore they will be in this same spot in 10 years with FF14 if it even lives though going pay to play. Really FF14 is the reason the Ps2 hasn't been drop. What kind of message do you think that would send to those looking to play 14 on their Ps3, that when it becomes a burden to the the Game SE will just drop them. Though again thats assuming that it makes it past PS3 lauch and 2.0 rebot. The reviewers will have a field day with a rebot on a game that is 2 years from first release.
