Scribing Scrolls - a proposal for a new game mechanism

Forgive me if this has been covered before, but I did a search for both "scribe" and "scribing" on these forums and only came back with a result in the Corsair forum, so I think I'm safe. Here we go:

What possibility would there be to give characters the ability to scribe a scroll from their learned spell list?

Let's say that in order to scribe a scroll you had to complete a small quest. You would then have to assemble materials and talk to a NPC (BLM NPC would be in Windurst, WHM in San d' Oria's Temple, NIN in Norg, etc...)(NOTE: You really DO want separate NPCs so you don't create a Horst Effect) and trade them material appropriate for the spell's level. Scribing a level 75 spell should require different/more expensive materials than scribing a level one spell. The character would then have the spell permanently removed from their list, and would be given a scroll of the spell which they could promptly give to a friend or place on AH.

This may initially create some degree of "new" gil as people dump old spells. Some spells would likely cost more to scribe than to place on AH or sell to vendors, so you probably would not see anyone scribing Dia. Naturally, no one is going to say "well, I guess I don't need Utsusemi: Ni anymore...", but if someone has retired their DRK, they could pick up a little extra clink from purging their spell library. Additionally, if the materials needed to scribe the spell could be crafted by PCs and then put on AH, it would stimulate sales in those areas as well. Finally, if all of a sudden there are more spells available on the AH, then the somewhat absurd prices for particular quest-only/rare drop scrolls might drop - if just a little. A very little.

The only truly bad thing that comes to mind about this proposal is that a malicious player could really and truly ruin the day of another player by stripping their spell library.

    Have at it.

(P.S: This is by no means a result of me trying to get a scroll of Paeon V - I had this idea way before I started Bard. However...)
