Macro activation slow on PC Client

Steps:
1. Press Alt or Ctrl on the keyboard
2. Wait up to 2 seconds for macro menu to appear
3. Macro menu appears after a delay.

Additionally, if you press, for instance, Ctrl+1 and release it before the macro bar appears, the macro will fail to activate. If you hold down the Ctrl button at least, the macro will complete when the bar appears.

This behavior is greatly exaggerated in densely populated areas.

Been that way since I first started in 2005 and I expect has always been like that. Damned annoying, clearly crappy software design which slaves keyboard response to some internal processing. The fact that the response ranges from instant to a couple of seconds (and all times in between) seems to me to demonstrate that reaction to the need to display the macro palette is being blocked by other rendering operations.

It takes a while for the macro bar to show up (which is annoying in itself), but hitting macros works without the bar showing in the screen for me. I tested it just now. However, often I will experience random macro failures, that seemingly have no correlation to anything. Just randomly doesn't activate.

Got any idea if that processing is the reason why I've been experiencing FFXI hogging the keyboard when multi-tasking?
