Hello everyone.
As a player who absolutely loves FFXI's missions, I've been very sad lately because there have been no new missions to attempt. And there are a bunch of questions I'd like to ask in the open.
But first, a quick look at the recent history of missions and story quests in FFXI.
The last batch of missions, for the story line of Wings of the Goddess was released in Dec 2010. It began in Nov 2007, meaning it took 3 years to fully release. This was unusually long even for full expansion stories, but still proved to be fulfilling and enjoyable.
Since then there were no new missions added, but Abyssea did have a series of story quests that ran from June 2010 to Dec 2010, which were similar in some ways to missions. And there were also 3 add-on scenarios in 2009.
In 2011, there is Voidwatch. It also has some kind of background story, but so far they're just mainly cutscenes to elaborate on the Voidwatch phenomenon and are nothing like traditional missions.

As a mission enthusiast, I'd like to ask to developers:
1) Will there be new missions in the near future? If so, what can we expect to see?
2) Looking further, if there are no future expansions to FFXI, are we to assume that there will not be any new series of missions anymore? Or will there be new story missions without the need for new full expansions? (like add-on scenarios, but hopefully longer and more interesting)
..to other mission fans, I'd like to ask..
What do you hope to see from future missions, if any, and how do you wish to see the story expand?
Personally, missions are one of my favorite aspects of FFXI and I was a little disappointed that the 12 month road map made no mention of them at all.
What do you guys think?

Also, on a semi-related note, I hear that the devs are looking into making it possible to re-enter mission battlefields that one have already cleared, just for the sake of it.
I hope it gets implemented soon, I miss some of those battles, but it's so hard to find someone who's currently on that specific fight just to join him for it.
