it would be nice if could be upgraded from the ps2 to ps3, you know stick it on the psn store.
But I know that will probably never happen due to having to code engine for the ps3.

That would be nice but we already got a good and new console for ffxi and thats the Xbox360...
I agree the PS2 limitations suck tho. And one day in the future, the Xbox360 will also limit ffxi but that days hasn't come yet so who knows?

Also, is it me or do most of ffxi community on the forums tend to like the PS3 better than the xbox360?

Not to create a console wars, but I find the PS3 a lot more limited than the xbox360 when it comes down to ffxi or other things in general. For example:

Xbox360 you can talk to your friends on headsets while playing ffxi. And you can costume soundtrack in ffxi on the xbox360 and it is user friendly. Considering the ffxi original soundtrack does get repetitive and boring for some if not most people. And having the option to talk and voice chat with your friends online with a game that doesn't support headsets voice chat, does help with stronger communications and bring friends ever so closer.

You can do that in the PC TOO but with technical stuff such as trying to make the game go to windower 1st, then turn on skype or vent or other third party voice programs to talk with friends on headsets voice chat. Also, I know you can make ur own costume soundtrack for in game zones too. And that is getting deeper to the technical side of things. But all in all, thats pretty neat.

On PS3 you cannot listen to costume soundtrack unless the game supports it. Majority don't support it.
So you are stuck to listening to game music or mute the game music and use outside source like an (Ipod) which sucks if you dont have any. Plus even if you do, it wont be the same feeling as if it was coming out of the same TV you hear SFX in game to give it an In game feeling to it.

On PS3 you cant talk to your friends on headsets voice chat unless the game supports it, ffxi doesnt support voice chat so that feature is out.

PC and Xbox360 seems to have those 2 features while PS3 seems to be lacking those features.

I understand there are some people prefer to type because I had a friend who was just like that till I got him to voice chat with me and now, we talk with each other and other friends on XBL voice chat almost every time we get on and enjoy the game with our friends!
(You tend to get to know people better through headsets than seeing them type /annon)

Majority of my xbox live friends if not, All of my xbox live friends play ffxi and whats good about the xbox is I can see their friend's List and find out if they know anyone who plays ffxi too so I can meet them in game and talk to them voice chat.

It is always nice to be able to see who your friends are friends with, using that feature to meet more friends who play a similar types of games as you do. It's a Clever networking strategy. But if you do not wish people to check your friends list, you can simply put it in Privet settings which is another good Option.

But on the PS3, you cannot do that at all. You can check your own friends list but you do not have the option to see who your friends associate with and what games they play. You are Limited in how you can Network with your friends and other features that can help you build a stronger relationship with your online friends with these PS3 limitations.

Which goes back to my point:
PC, and xbox360 seems to be pretty good systems for FFXI. PS2 was a good console for ffxi however, I don't see the NEED for upgrading the PS2 to PS3 when they already have a good console that does better like xbox360 as far as the options it provides you and for what it can do.

In the end tho, PC is always the best choice. But for those who prefer consoles, I don't see a reason not to get an xbox360 considering, Xbox360 Exclusives and PS3 Exclusive RULES and both consoles are worth having, "excluding the Limitations ps3 offers"

But maybe a PS3 upgrade is ok to have for those who don't even have an Xbox360 or PC?
    Just maybe.

    But IMO:
you gotta be INSANE not to have a simple PC tho. =)

For me it seems like SE knows better how to deal with PS3 hardware than xbox 360 hardware. While they're considering a port to the PS Vita (mmorpg on a handheld wut), it seems like it opens a door to porting the game to the PS3. I have never owned an xbox 360, but all of my friends that have played the game on it prefers to play it on the PC instead. The most common complaint is that the client crashes in certain places.

You know, the PS Vita for ffxi would be revolutionary. I mean an MMORPG game in a Hand held system? Sounds Epic!
lol Gotta get me one of those.
